French VAT |
 |
Posted on Friday, June 10 @ 04:29:05 BST by nukeadmin |
Something out of the ordinary
I live in Jersey and I own a motormome (S700 Hymer) and like a lot of other like minded people I keep my motorhome in France. For an Island of 45 square miles there are 644 motorhomes and caravans registered here. France is just over one hour away by boat.
Return trip for motorhome £230.00 -£700.00 A lot of money ?? So most people leave there camping car in France under cover in a big shed, all locked up !!
Last month the customs (Douane) decided to put on notice on every motorhome and car parked in the shed staiting "you must contact Saint Malo customs before use of your vehicle"
If your wagon has been in France for longer than six months you get fined (depending on how long it has been in France , how much you get fined Ranges between 300 and 1500 euros plus any wagon that has not paid T.V.A (V.A.T) must pay up before they can move it If VAT has been paid in another E.U Country they will accept it ,but you have to prove it If you can prove it, you then have to re-register it in the country the VAT was paid .
You will not be allowed to keep it in France or any other EC country for more than six months in any one year if it has Jersey plates (ie J 12345 ) Funny ! ! over the last week a lot of motorhomes/caravans have been returning to Jersey
Best Regards
Ousty

Re: French VAT (Score: 1) by mlarb on Friday, July 01 @ 21:08:20 BST (User Info | Send a Message) | I also live in Jersey and am contemplating buying a mobilehome. Your comments are very helpful because I was contemplating keeping it in France. Do you know if there are any places where a mobilehome can be kept in Jersey - probably a farm or somewhere like that?
Many thanks

When you say that a motorhome in France for longer than 6 months can attract a fine vat ect. What about those of us that are considering full timeing where we might be in France Spain ect for much longer than 6 months are we in the same boat ?

Re: French VAT (Score: 1) by Devallon on Sunday, January 29 @ 09:00:46 GMT (User Info | Send a Message) | | A similar situation applies in UK. Foreign registered cars need to be re-registered to comply with our MOT Road fund licence and Insurance regulations. Although the 11 months you can use it means you don't need to worry too much about parking tickets etc ! |
