John, I don't know the specs of your particular camera ('cos you ain't given them!) but at night it will need infrared illumination built-in to see anything in the dark.

If you look directly (with a silly grin!) at the camera when it is on and in the dark you should see a ring of red LEDs around it. They illuminate for a distance of a few metres, sufficient for parking.

Car headlights will generally "blind" the camera due to the huge contrast difference, leading to flaring.

It does not take much in the way of splashes or salt on the fish-eye lens to make it very blurry. The only remedy is to get out and clean it before manoeuvering!

I bought the dual lens 5" screen Weaco system in June 08. Had similar problems intermittent blue screen etc. It was fitted by Charles & Son in Poole. That year we used the motorhome in Europe for over six months & lived abroad so I was unable to get it tested within the warranty period (one year) although I did contact Waeco re no sound available when it rained but only by phone ! The problems got worse & I finally had it tested by Vanbitz who said the screen had gone. I returned it to Dometic (Waeco) at Blandford who said the whole system needed replacing - they have offered me a discount but fitted I'm still looking at £800 plus to replace a system just over two years old I politely told them I didn't think it "fit for the purpose" ! There response was that because it's fitted to a motorhome this wouldn't stand up ! Their guarantee is now two years !

I recommend any problems during the warranty period should be put in writing -E mailed to installer & copied to Dometic.

I hope this helps-I am undecided about which camera now to choose ?

Good luck

Good Evening All,

I have taken a look at all of your postings here and have collated them in a batch so I can discuss this with Dometic tomorrow AM (as they have already gone home!).

I will try my upmost to get some idea of the causes and be back to you in due course.

P.S

Smick - I have sent a seperate reply to your email over to you.

Good point, Pippin, its the WAECO PerfectView RVS 750 single lens
system. However I seem to have fixed the problem.

The camera has an eyelid type shade to keep the rain/sunlight off the lens this seemed to be set quite low and was partially covering the lens. it occurred that the glare may be caused by reflection from that shade when the infra red was on.

I had mentioned this to the dealer yesterday but they didnt think it was a problem... not so, a slight adjustment and the night image is now much better and the foggy glare is gone.

Hopefully that might go some way to solving the initial poster's problem also.

Interesting point John, but my camera (Twin Lens) doesn't have the adjustable shade, and the problems have happened through what appear to be electrical / electronic problems.

The system worked fine when I first got it, until I got the blue screen of death. Then it worked fine again after I had the screen replaced - for a while.
The latest issues were to do with the switching mechanism between close view / distant view. Now the whole system has deteriorated again.

So I think it is a system fault, rather than what you're describing. Hopefully, Nick at Van Bitz will be able to batter Waeco into some sort of understanding about what is happening.

Regards

Smick
