I have had trouble with mice eating a length of insulation which covers the top heater hose on my Fiat.

Fortunately it seems that they are only attracted to this material and have not attacked any other hoses or cables.
I shudder to think of the damage they would cause if they took it into their tiny minds to have a munch on the electrics under the bonnet.

I now leave a mouse trap stuck to the rocker cover with "blue tack" so far I have bagged six.

Somebody once suggested Bounce fabric softener sheets as a mouse repellant for the habitation area of the van. Don't know if it works but your mice might decide it's warmer inside now it's winter so it might be worth giving it a try.

A couple of years ago we had a similar problem but it was a rat. It had got under the bonnet and chewed through bulkhead wiring (including alarm and ignition circuits) and got into the van and chewed furnishings and lots more. Fortunately, the insurers agreed to settle the bill, around Ģ5000. This all happened in own drive and in a few day period. I caught the culprit in a trap in the van after the damage was done!

We have a two year old Ford Pollenza.
A few months back we had mice in the interior of the van. They chewed holes into virtually every seating cushion. They had entered up the side of the Van gas fires corrugated air intake,
The pipe hadn't been sealed to the floor and they were just using it like a ladder, we were absolutely devastated. We set two traps inside the van and the next day we had caught two mice, which I took a picture of as evidence, then found and temporarily sealed the hole where they had entered the van.

We rang our insurers SAFEGUARD and was told that they didn't cover vermin which we couldn't believe. We then rang AUTOSLEEPER and told them that this was down to them not sealing the pipe when the van was built. The boss there was very good and booked us in to have the work done, they have two hardstandings with electric hook-up for staying overnight.
The pipe was sealed and all the cushions were replaced free, I dread to think what it would have cost.
We now always have a couple of the mains ultrasonic mice deterrents running in the van and traps always set just in case. Touch wood we've been ok since.
I would be very interested as to where I could get motorhome insurance which includes cover against vermin as you would have thought a big company like SAFEGUARD would have included it in their policy!!!

Me too. WE are currently insured with Safeguard and were unaware of this clause. We will also change to someone else if we can get a better level of cover. Does anyone know of any othere insurers?

I had a mouse on Dragon Bus a few months ago, It managed to climb up to the parcel shelves ?? god knows how ?? It ate pretty much everything made of paper or cardboard and left a trail of **** everywhere.

I was working my way round the bus cleaning up the mess when I turned round to see the little buggar sitting bold as brass in the companionway looking at me. It didnt even flinch when I went to grab it. It just walked off round to the cab and sat there giving me the evil eye.

I took the bus on the road for 2 weeks and there was no sign of it, must have decamped when I started the engine.

I have heard of horses under the bonnet. Not sure I believe that as I think they are to big to get in. Mice I can understand. Best thing to do if they are that hungry is to leave them a plate of picky things, like sausage rolls, ham and pineapple perhaps as they must be very hungry if they choose to eat cables.
