Are there any countries outside the UK which require a MH to have a TV licence?
If so, is the existence of a UK licence satisfactory to meet local requirements?
UK TV licences seem to be only available for 12 months. Is there any way to pay for just one month? e.g pay by instalments and cancel the DD? Or reclaim after one month's use?
[I am looking at the legal ways - of course being spotted by a snooper van within 1 month is unlikely. Has anyone seen one lately?]
I don't think there's any requirement apart from in the UK. That said, your home licence covers you for when away in the 'van. And I've never seen one of those detector vans; I think they rely on sending letters out to anybody who hasn't got one, and threatening them . Quite often you hear of people who don't have a TV being threatened by the TV licensing people.
And did you know you need a TV licence to watch TV on the computer? How would a detector van pick that up ??

As far as I know, the only motorhoming Oxford United supporter in Bognor.
Detector vans used to have sensitive direction finding receivers that could pick up the radiated harmonics from your TV set.
They gave up that system many years ago and just cruised around the street in vans that looked the same - to panic people into buying a licence!
Now it is cheaper just to go through the postcode list of addresses and target the ones that don't appear on the list of licensees as they are very much in the minority now.
They are also very cunning at targeting university halls of residence in September!
Incidentally, there is some form of T licence required in France but I am not sure of the details.
A detector van cannot detect a flat panel tv. Therefore there are no more detector vans.
The assumtion is that now if no licence exists for the address then there is a case worth investigating.

Many years ago, when I had no TV, I got several letters regarding a tv licence. Kept replying saying i didn't have one (tv that is)
Eventually, possibly after a little liquid refreshment, i replied again stating I had no tv, but saying that if they gave me one of their many confiscated tvs i would happily get a licence. Never heard from them again

We asked about a TV licence for our house in France and were told by three separate officals (Marie, Notaire and Estate Agent) that it is included in the Council Tax.
We bought a new TV in LeClerk and no-one mentioned licences at all.
I will ask again next week when we are there if it would help,
Our French TV license was always included in the 'Taxe de Habitation' or house tax until we became eligible not to pay it.
I would guess that every French house has the TV license element included unless you opt out. This with French burocracy would be a mammoth undertaking.
We had some English friends who paid both the French and UK license as she watched Corry...???
I doubt there would be a separate one for the van or mobile viewer.

As we are away for a long time, we pay our TV license by direct debit when we are home, then remove the TV from the house before we leave, and inform them that we have no TV on the premises and cancel the direct debit.
We have for the last 2 years received a small refund, then about 4 letters saying that we need a TV license !!!!
We have tried contacting them, with no joy, so we just ignore the letters then pay for a new license by direct debit when we return, it works for us and it gives us a few extra pounds for purchasing wine when we are away......
Sorry to be accused of nit picking, but, the correct spelling in the UK is LICENCE. It becomes LICENSING, and LICENSED. Our friends across the pond use the incorrect spelling using LICENSE. Good night
