The gear linkage is very exposed of these vans, so Greasing is needed at least once a year.

I've had the mobile mechanic in and he's greased the linkages. Took it down to Porthmadoc this weekend and the fourth gear problem seems to have settled down but it won't stay in fifth now unless I hold it in. It looks like the fifth gear is worn and I'll probably need to rerplace it.

It could still be an adjustment problem though.

I hope so. Can you adjust the gear linkages when the gearstick is the short one on the dashboard?

I'm still with Kev n Liz on this when he says "It could still be an adjustment problem though."

As I said in my previous post, I had the same problem with my 2001 Peugeot 1.9td. It would suddenly jump out of 5th gear, and engaging other gears was hard work.

I acquired a copy of a PETER RUSSEK MANUAL. (www.russek-manuals.co.uk) which covers all 3 Sevel-based vehicles. It was in there that I learnt about the clutch adjustment. My pedal was some 22mm slack, so, for the sake of a couple of spanners, I set about tightening it.

And suddenly it would change gear, and it never dropped out of gear ever again!! Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Hi,
There have been lot's of posts about this problem, I would check that the gearbox oil has not got water in and ensure that it is not replaced by the thinner oil which Peugeot recommend for their latest models,
Regards,
Chris
