It has been announced that Ocean Media will be hosting next years NEC show from the 21st to the 26th February, however the NCC are also hosting their brand new Show "The NCC Motorhome, Caravan and Camping Show" which is due to take place 14th - 19th of February 2012.
Is this a good move?
Should the NCC have launched their new show with timing so close to the already established NEC Show ?
Interestingly on the new NCC show website it states "The February show, run by the industry's exhibition company, NCC Events, will be the only exhibition taking place in the spring where the major caravan and motorhome manufacturers will be displaying their latest season’s models. ABI, Autocruise, Auto-Trail, Bailey, Coachman, Elddis, Lunar, Swift and Trigano have all underwritten this show. The Caravan Club have also pledged their support for the February ExCeL Show."
Does this then mean the total pullout of seemingly all the major players from the established NEC show, if so will this spell the death knell for it ?

MAJOR INDUSTRY MOVE AS BOAT & CARAVAN SHOW & THE CAMPING AND CARAVANNING CLUB JOIN FORCES
‘Club is the natural partner for the largest outdoor leisure show in the UK’
Ocean Media Group’s flagship event the Boat & Caravan Show today announced a major initiative that sees The Camping and Caravanning Club joining forces with the UK’s largest outdoor leisure show as an exclusive partner.
The announcement follows the recent news of a new tenancy agreement with The NEC Birmingham for both the 2012 and 2013 editions of the event.
Commenting on the relationship, Boat & Caravan’s Exhibition Director Andy Gibb said: “This significant initiative at a particularly exciting time for the show, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, sees us joining forces with an industry partner that shares our desire to bring to life the Great British Outdoors to the British public.
“In a three year agreement, covering 2012, 2013 and 2014, The Camping and Caravanning Club will become official event partners. We have already commenced planning the 2012 event which will be driven by an industry advisory board made up of leading industry figures. This board will oversee the make-up and direction of the event and to ensure that the show continues to meet the needs of the visitor and exhibitor.
The Camping and Caravanning Club’s Marketing & Communications Director Matthew Eastlake said: "The Boat & Caravan Show, together with the new Outdoor Leisure Show promotes outdoor pursuits at a time when many people are considering their choice of holidays for the year ahead, often based on fulfilling a hobby such as walking, cycling or sailing.
"The Camping and Caravanning Club takes pride in being able to offer everyone a wide range of outdoor holiday options from tent camping to caravan holiday home and lodge holidays both in the UK and worldwide.
"The Club is the natural partner for the largest outdoor leisure show in the UK as it offers something for everyone, from families looking towards their first camping adventure to the seasoned caravanner who might be looking to tour Europe or further afield."
Andy Gibb adds: “We are convinced that the coming together of our two organisations, and putting visitors and the visitor experience at the heart of the event will provide the ideal environment to drive sales for all exhibitors who see The NEC as the natural and ideal venue for the UK’s largest outdoor leisure show. “
The 2012 Boat & Caravan Show will take place from the 21st to the 26th February.
For us that live south of London, the Excel show is welcome.
However, two shows that close together timewise can only dilute resources so we could end up with two half shows
We went to the NEC last Thursday and a couple of the larger distributors both said that they would not be going to Excel. The cost of the stand plus London prices for hotels/restaurants for their staff makes it prohibitively expensive.
It will be interesting to see which exhibitors go to which show.

I cant think of a more soleless place to hold any show than Excel, it is also difficult for anybody living on the western side of the uk to get to.
After the boat show was moved from Earls Court where i used to go every year, to Excel i went once to see what was supposed to be so exciting about the place, that once was more than enough for me.
I did try it again but my first visit should have been enough, it added a few hours to the journey and seemed empty with no atmosphere at all.
The NEC is the ideal place for any national show, it is in the centre of the country with good access to all.
I usually go to the NEC show in February but I for one will not go to Excel.
My SWMBO other half is also a Sue and her boyfriend before I turned up in her life light years ago was named Phil Dews. So she could have been Suedews as well

Went to the Excel show a few years ago, which failed miserably. Will not go again. Even from where we live at M1 junction 10, Excel is a horrendous journey and one of the many closures on the M25 will be even more problematic.
This is another example of the failure of the Caravan/Motorhome industry to understand their customers or to work with any form of industry-wide co-ordination.
If both shows go ahead as planned then they both deserve to fail.
Will certainly not go to half a show at the NEC.

All this talk about travel difficulties to get to Excel, will motorists/ motorcaravanners be staying away from the Olympic events as these are being held not too far away from it next year?
