Hi, if I was you I would ask your insurrance company, and get it in writing. Also you may wish to look at breakdown cover. Some companies will not cover the towed car, or trailer if it is to long, or not fitted with breaking etc. In france you will need breakdown cover its very expensive if you do breakdown.
Best to check out your insurrance companie and breakdown cover. yourselve. terry

Hello, we tow car on a A frame behind our M/H. We had no problems. We do have separate insurance for both vehicles and a braked A frame. Our insurance companies said no problem. Would like to hear any info from anyone who has encountered any difficulties

We also tow a Smart unbraked (don't! go there!)
Told both insurance companies Privelege for Smart and Safeguard for MH
No problem or additional premium for European cover.

I seem to recall somebody having a problem in one of the mags, they were towing their car on a trailer when it was rear ended, no trouble getting the trailer or motorhome repaired, but the insurance wouldn't payout for the car.

The reason was that the car insurance was only for when it was on the road not for when it was on a trailer. And the motorhome insurance only covered damage to the trailer not for anything on it.

Can't remember any other details sorry.

Olley

No problem with Safeguard and MoreThan. Safeguard wrote to me to advise it was only covered third party though. Oddly enough, the Caravan Club who does not exactly support A Frame towing say they will cover you with their motorhome. insurance.

If that isn't the understatement of the century its certainly the understatement of this year.

I would make doubly sure of using a reputable insurer not a cheapo. Any problems and they would find an excuse not to pay out. Mine (NFU) supplied me with a written statement that everything was ok whilst using an A frame. Both my Car and MH are insured with them Fully comp.
