I own a 1999 Hymer B524 on a Fiat Ducato 2.8TD and live in London
So I'm faced with the chore and expense of having to find and have fitted a retro fit emissions filter- Has anyone had this done yet/ or found out who fits ant tests them and the cost - and Yes they need retesting every year at about £32 as well as the MOT.
any sources and costs info much appreciated

Not yet decided on one. I understand that the Caravan Club are trying to find a source for lower mileage/non fleet vehicles, asd many on the market are really designed for on high Mileage fleet vewhicles
Still looking and hoping that there is a more economic option

I am also in your situation. I understand that a filter for Motorhomes hasn't been approved yet and is still being tested.
A friend in the MCC has been trying to get one fitted by Clean Diesel but they are still testing their filters.
I understand that the cost will be around £1,500 plus fitting. As TFL have stated that it will take up to 3 months to o the registration we have until probably the end of September to come up with some sort of solution.
Surely at that price its worth considering storage outside the LEZ?
peedee

I have been quoted £1.994 + VAT + Fitting £350.00 + VAT so far though I thought I had found one that was about £1,750 +VAT and didn't require an annual service as well. so any info on more competitive and suitable ones is very welcome. The motorhome is my only vehicle these days so storing it somewhere else isn't that convenient an option.

It looks like the costs for compliant filters are beginning to fall - there are now some being developed for lower mileage non fleet vehicle such as motorhomes - apparently there is one due from Clean Diesel technologies at about £1400 + £300ish for fitting +VAT and more info on http://www.tomsettkent.com/lowemmissionzonemotorhomes.htm

I am in the same boat having just received a letter from the Transport for London.
It kindly points out that my Hymer B544 2.5 TDi 1998 model does not meet the low emissions requirement. We have until January 2012 to comply - or pay £100 per day to enter the low emissions zone.
This means that we will have to fit a filter. Fitting LPG will not lower the emissions enough as Turbo diesels still use a mixture of diesel and LPG.
Does anyone know roughly how much a low emissions filter will cost ?
Does anyone know a fitter in the South they can recommend?
On top of the fitting -we have to get a £40 per annum emissions certificate .
I have thought about avoiding the Greater London area, which includes part of the M25,but it will expand to other areas in the country eventually ,so it is only a matter of time when huge swathes of England will be no go areas! It appears that parts of Europe are bringing in the same requirement also which will apply to us - unlike Boris, who will let foreign non compliant vehicles enter the London Low Emission Zone free of charge.
The suggestion to buy a newer motorhome is not an option.
