Tried to renew my motorhome insurance through Saga yesterday but the new renewal details indicate that the recovery size is ridiculously short. Spoke to them on the phone and they informed me they had changed their rules and the new size was correct. Informed them I would have to consider what to do, however, contacted Safeguard and they can insure me for about £50 less than Saga for similar cover. Thanks to Saga for forcing me to change.

Interesting thing with Saga.

Someone ran in to the side of my father's car the other week.

He contacted Saga and the process began.

However, there was a query about providing a loan car so he contact Saga.
The women who answered the phone was abrupt and he asked her is there a problem.
She said no and he continued to go through the process, after about 10 mins she said, "wait" she put the phone down and he could clearly hear her say, "there is a old Welshman on the phone I hate the Welsh"

Of course, she had not put him on hold and heard all this, when she came back on the phone he calmly said I need to speak to your manager because I have just over heard your comments.

After a couple of days they played back the recording of the telephone conversation and agreed there was no need for the comments and the women had been disciplined

They offered him compensation the lot.

Has he says, its not just the Welsh comment but to refer to him being old (72) is a bit rich coming from Saga.

Of course, I feel if he had been a blackman this would be in all the papers and lawyers would be crawling all over saga

Hi solentviews and Bertha

Interesting that you should say these things, Saga was sold to an Insurance company in the last year or so I believe. I think that they have tried to increase the pricing structure as I have moved all insurances I had with them to other companies because they are now so expensive. In fact I have moved nearly, by their renewal quotes, £2200 worth of business from them and saved over £650, now that is a lot of money over a year to have wasted on inflated renewals.
I have to say I was happy with the service until this year, they were very techy when I asked them whether the could improve on their quotes and match others!!

Paulaway,

this explains a lot, my father having been with them for over 5 Year with no problems and reasonable service until recently.

He gone to the Post Office now where their quotes are very good

BERTHA

Got it slightly wrong when I said insurance company, Though I am sure there was a couple in the running after it, it is probably worse as its an investment company have aread of this if you have the time:-

Might explain why they have upped their prices and cut services!!!

That's very Interesting, you know, Saga, like most small privately run companies who started off with good ethical principles and then the big money boys start sniffing around then its bugger the principles

Explains a lot about their current attitude and increasing charges which is a shame, the principle of providing something unique for the over 50's was a good Idea but if there is nothing now that stands them out from the other Insurance companies then they will had no value to over 50's

Sorry solentviews, didn't mean to take over your thread but it may partly explain your cost savings on changing from SAGA.

Bertha

In case you don't know them one of the policies I have moved from them was house and contents as I found RIAS another over 50's insurance company less than half the cost for what appears to be the same cover.
They do motor and other insurance cover as well but I havn't tried them for anything else yet

Thats OK Bertha. I just thought people should know. I would have stayed with Saga if they had been willing to recover my motorhome should the need arise.
