Hi Paul,

On a similar vain to Steve & Ann, we are pitched next to a couple who full time in their Rockwood Fiver, and when not on their permanent site with hook up, they run everything from a 1Kva Honda generator, ie large LCD TV, aircon, 2 x laptops, lighting, etc, but incorporating inverters too.

Why not start small to see how you get on. I appreciate that storage for a small genny might be a problem.

Best regards,

Jock.

Hi Jock
Yes, that maybe a solution, i,ve been looking today for a second hand honda eu 10i genny,(new ones are about £700) i saw one on ebay last week, but people want £400+ for a 6 year old one etc.

Storage is an issue, you dont realise how much sh@~&, sorry essentials Laughing you put into a van, we do have room for an underslung one though.

Steve n Anne seem to have got it cracked, do the kipors run smooth? i,m thinking of damage to the Hymer electroblock etc.

Paul.

We have a Telair lpg genny running from our fixed ank. As the Motorhome s diesel I didn't want to have to think about 3 different possible fuels and very expensive to have a diesel genny.

Works well and our biggest use besides hair dryer is to run our bean to cup coffee machine in the mornings when no ehu.

Very quiet and dead easy

I had a Teleco gas generator installed over two years ago and it runs fine with cooker, fridge on together through Truma regulator. I have two gaslo largest cylinders. I think it is very quiet and has been useful in the winter to keep batteries charged, there being no power in the storage compound.
It also runs the microwave and enables use of a mains vacuum cleaner and other appliances e.g.- a Ring mains compressor, which was very useful when a tyre deflated on site. The cost was under £3k and far cheaper than the Efoy system and does more.
The only disadvantage is that it needs to be disconnected under the chassis for servicing. True it is expensive, but has saved me quite a few problems with less inconvenience.

Hi Coppo,

Like Johnthompson, we too have a Gasperini 12v LPG onboard underslung generator and we really cannot fault it. It is quite small and lightweight compared to other on-board gennys and as John says, it is also very quiet. In fact - we decided on the spur of the moment to come along to the Newark show this weekend to celebrate getting our MH back after a month of her being off the road due to a gearbox problem (I will update on that problem when I have a little more time) and right now we are in the general camping area, sandwiched in-between 2 RV's and oh my word, when they switch them on, the difference in noise level between theirs and ours is considerable! Ours in comparison is virtually inaudible but there is no way the noise from theirs can be be avoided and we can hear them even from inside our MH! I would imagine they are diesel/petrol powered but obviously without asking them I cannot be 100% sure!

We have 2 x 95 Ah batteries, plus a 135 watt solar panel and run a 2kw inverter and we are able to use our microwave, my hairdryer and straightners, a mains powered sky plus digi box, plus charge up my mobility scooter and any other appliance that we take with us that requires mains power and even though we are probably considered to be quite heavy users of electricity compared to many other motorhomers, we never run out of power whenever we are wildcamping or attending shows or rallies without an EHU.

Based on our experience of using a Honda EU20 suitcase genny with our previous 2 motorhomes and the onboard Gasperini we now use in our new MH, I know which comes out top of the list for us but of course, like most on-board generators, they don't come cheap! I must say that we got a fantastic bargain and bought ours off Saddletramp, who is also a member of this forum but in my opinion, if you can afford the initial outlay, then you won't be disappointed with the Gasperini.

Another plus point to bear in mind is that if and when you ever decide to change your MH, you can always have this genny swapped from one vehicle to another!

I hope this helps?

Sue

Thanks Sue, good info from an end user.

Still studying the situation and what to do, it was mainly for Carolines hairdryer/hotbrush we required a genny for, in winter the solar(we have 280w) isnt enough to maintain them, although they do put in a fair bit on sunny winter days.

We have just had a Sterling B2B fitted and have 2 big 6 volf affairs so may see how we get on(spring/summer easy), but of course i may go ahead withan on borad one if the right deal comes along. As stated i have fiound they are much cheaper abroad.

Regards
Paul.

Right, asked supplier to fit generator and other things, at easter time
went on the 2 may for van assessment

booked for fitting on 19,20,23 may
informed on 18th mat no generator (don't think it had been ordered) excuse its an expensive bit of kit and we get left with generators

phoned dometic told they were in stock, 5-7 days to agent

ordered on the 19th (I hope)

now told that the agents don't expect delivery until the end of next week so provisional booking 6,7,8,june

we have been waiting to go away since the beginning of may, don't like to travel during school holidays and don't usually need to now
Wanted to go for a couple of months at least, first time we've had the chance due to caring duties, that hope is fading.

So we want to go to germany, if we got the Tec 29 LPG generator fitted there, would save quite a bit money and at least we,d be away whilst we wait but don't know how to organise it
does any body know?
