All lane restrictions and the 40mph speed limit on the northbound (clockwise) carriageway and southbound (anti-clockwise) carriageway have been removed.

During the day drivers are now able to benefit from five lanes in each direction between junctions 12 and 14, and six lanes in each direction between junctions 14 and 15. The variable speed limit is now back in operation with the upper limit being the national speed limit of 70mph. However, some speed restrictions will be in place overnight for the next two weeks to enable minor works to be completed.

When the M25 first opened it had the reputation for being the largest race track in the world, now I believe it has the reputation as the largest carpark.

I avoid it like the plaque.

Hi Don

Living close to Heathrow we have no option but to use this particular stretch of the M25. However it must be said that this section has been running much better of late. The removal of all roadworks and speed restrictions should improve the situation further. That is until Terminal 5 opens to the public and the associated traffic which accompanies its use come in to play. Then I expect we will return to the same old traffic jams. Lets not even think what it will be like when the construction of Terminal 6 gets under way.

Of necessity, 3 or 4 times a year we have to use the M25 from the M11 over the Dartford crossing to the M2 and the reverse journey.

Its saving grace is that we are either going to France or going home after being in France and to some extent we can pick our time.

Autostratus - if you leave the M11 at sthe Stansted turnoff it's now very easy to get to the Dartford Crossing with using the M25 (until the last mile or so).
It's a bit of a cross country ride but it's worth it to avoid the M25..

Thanks for that, Tony.
I will sus it out on the map for future reference.

To be honest we haven't had a problem on the M11 since the road works near the junction with the airport were completed. It's probably to do with the time of day we use this motorway.
As we normally go for an early morning ferry (6.00am-ish) we are at the southern end of the M11 about 5.00pm and it doesn't seem too bad although the Dartford crossing seems busy at all times..
Returning we pick Sunday for an easy journey, crossing at 8.00am or even the Sat. night and overnighting in Dover for an early start home.
The M25 and even the M1 can be easy early Sunday moring.
