Photos appreciated.
I've just bought a rear view CCD and it's looking to me like the roof might be my best bet?
THIS ONE
I'm think possibly mount it to the right hand rear facing edge of the solar panel frame
The bikes on the back will require a low level camera later for reversing
Decided on here, I might get away with just the one at this height.
waiting for monitor from chinky land
So far my 4 core camera cable is run in minitrunking around the roof to my solar junction box, through the roof, through the distribution panel cupboard, down the wardrobe cable way to the bottom drawer beside the fridge. At this point it looks like I've no choice but to go through the floor and across the under chassis to the engine bay then up & through to the dash.
Well the clip on monitor never appeared from China but the seller refunded me.
I bought the same one at £5 more £29.99 delivered in two days.
I'm now up and running
I think the 1 camera will do. My line of sight is way down the road and in the foreground I can see the top of the bike cover. The spot on the ground I can see just on the horizon of the cover is equal to 1 metre from the bikes. So while reversing I can gauge the distance as I back up.
I wired the supplies off an ignition on only spare bus terminal in the right hand fusebox in a similar manner to the fix for making the accessory and cig lighter sockets permanently live from the left hand fusebox but opposite scenario.
our reversing camera is superb as long as the bikes aren't fitted! Even worse when the cover is on the bikes.
But ours gives a view that shows the rear of the 'van, so we can accurately line up when reversing. That is until we tried backing onto our daughters drive, and backed up to their garage door, and forgot that the gutter overhangs a bit - of course the top of the van ladder is not in view - and the ladder crushed their plastic guttering . No damage to the 'van, though

The foreground of my view covers a good yard either side more than the vans actual width so used in conjunction with the wing mirrors I should be fine. I'll try sort some photos of what I see this weekend

Interestingly, an hour ago I purchased a reversing camera for my Autocruise Stardream!
As a matter of intrest why didn't you position the camera below the top brake light? Is it because you only had a desire to see up the road behind you and not what you are about to back into?
Having weighed it up any lower would have totally ruled out reversing use due to the bikes.
In addition, mounting on top meant no holes to drill. The camera bracket is Sikaflexed to the grp and the cable is routed with my solar cables and through the roof junction box.
I am at the van now and taken a series of photographs showing the view. Will post them up tonight.
I should watch out when reversing, somebody's put some wine bottles in the way!!
