We've started using the Norwich & Peterborough Gold Classic Visa Debit card.

Saves taking currency with you.

Full commercial exchange rate...€1.19 when best I could get anywhere else was €1.14/1.15. i.e. not charging tourist rates.
Free Cash Withdrawals.
Free Purchases.
No Transaction Charges.
No Interest.

Used it in France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany without problem.

Just have to pay in £500 per month, which isn't really a problem, because if I don't need it I just pay it straight back to my normal account.

This gives travel insurance and cash abroad.

Its all a bit of a muchness.

Not a lot of good for us oldies as it only gives cover up to 65 years.

Hi

A useful link Ray for those researching the market etc.

I am using Halifax Clarity at present and so far have been converted at 1.13. On the same days, Caxton was offering 1.1

I agree with the comments above but beware....

Don't do what I did - I used my Debit Card by mistake six times in Funchal and I was charged £1.50 per transaction.

My excuse was that they look very similar to which my wife replied "but not THAT similar!!!"
