We've started using the Norwich & Peterborough Gold Classic Visa Debit card.

Saves taking currency with you.

Full commercial exchange rate...€1.19 when best I could get anywhere else was €1.14/1.15. i.e. not charging tourist rates.

Used it in France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany without problem.

I agree with the comments above but beware....

Don't do what I did - I used my Debit Card by mistake six times in Funchal and I was charged £1.50 per transaction.

My excuse was that they look very similar to which my wife replied "but not THAT similar!!!"
