@FordPrefect - Just got mine and have stated a new thread here http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ftopicp-1115463.html#1115463

The panel antenna will be more directional, so should give you better reception. It's also 7dbi rather than the supplied 5dbi omni

regards

Gareth

Well that's good news, looks like another sale for Alfa on the way. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to let us know.

the answer to your mac problem is to be found on the insanely mac forum but you need to be conversant with the konsole and kext if you want to install the rt8187 driver on snow leopard

Thanks for the info - however I've tried that. The issue is not really if you can install it - you can, and I suspect the post insanely mac post here is the one you are referring to.

But it doesn't work unless you boot in 32bit mode - which I really don't want to do. That and the chip being end of life. So the Alfa solution I mentioned above is better solution for me.

If your happy in 32bit, and never plan to upgrade to Lion, then ignore the Alfa option.

Faculty X will still work if you upgrade to Apple lion. Just remember to boot up in 32bit mode by-pressing key number 2 and 3 together while it first starts.
Hope this helps anyone.
Steve

Here is a solution for the Realtek on a Mac, but be warned it's technical!

www.atastypixel.com/blog/using-a-virtualbox-vm-to-operate-a-network-device-for-your-mac/

The Alfa is a good antenna, not quite as good as the directional panel antenna unless you couple it with a good panel on a very short cable. We've managed 15 miles on ours!
