I have read somewhere about some software that allows 2 gps applications to share 1 gps receiver. This would enable me to switch between AutoRoute for route planning and Memory Map for detailed local maps without needing to reboot.

Does anyone know of this software?

The only one I know of is called GPS Gate you can find it with a google search and get a free download, but I only know of its PDA application I don't know if it is available for laptops. You may be able to find something suitable from the sites that offer this.
