I Joined today as I am looking for a small campervan. My wife and I are not thinking of taking holidays in it, just occasional day trips and to go to Motor race meetings. We have limited parking space so are looking for something compact. I have read that used Toyota HiAce campervansm might be a good choice. I am now collecting information and any comments or messages will be gratefully recieved. I look forward to being a member here.

Can't give you much advice elva.
How long is a piece of string? Horses for courses, etc, etc. But this bump might just help.

Almost bought a Mazda bongo once was seriously tempted, but really needed something for long term use.
had previously had a romahome, great compact vehicle, good MPG, down side, toilet facilities and wont fit under a height barrier although the hilo does.
Perhaps if you let us know the facilities you require, toilet, shower, no of travel seats/berths someone might come up with a few suggestions.

There is a bongo forum not sure what it is called, but might be worth a look.

Hi and welcome...

If you are REALLY sure you'll only use it for day trips then I'd say look at the Romahome vans. We've borrowed several of them while our vans is being serviced and we've been much impressed. They're small enough to go anywhere but do have all the facilities- even a loo though no shower or washbasin and they seem well made and thought-out.

However...if you get addicted to the life and want longer holidays then they do have limited storage space.

We have a auto sleeper "Trident" based on a VW
Fantastic for us as we don't stay long even on a long holiday.
Good MPG with the 2.4 diesel , about 29ish to a gallon.
Lots of storage space and an easily errected bed.

Thanks Sue ( and Dew). I never heard of a bongo before so Ill look. I have seen a Toyota HiAce and think that these are imported from Japan with the campervan conversion already done. If the HiAce is as good as the Hilux it must be reliable. I think that the HiAce might be around the ruight size for us. Thanks for your friendly help.

we bought a 1994 Toyota Hiace Reimo campervan. Virtually no corroson, as imported from Japan 6 months ago. Mechanically everything works and looks and sounds good. No service record so Ill fit a new cambelt and give it a full service straight away. Very Happy
