I want a phone to replace my very elderly nokia which is on payg Vodafone and has developed some unfortunate habits, dialling out for example when the keyboard is locked. I just want a phone not a camera, PDA, or anything else. Bear in mind its hardly ever on or even with me in fact I don't even know where it is at the minute I take it to the allotment or when I walk the dog on my own. I can't remember the last time anyone apart from vodafone or my wife sent me a text.
It occurred to me that it might be useful to have one on a different network to my wife (vodafone) then when we are on our travels in UK if one doesn't work the other might.
Today as an early birthday present I was given a PAYG phone on the T-mobile network. Problem it doesn't work anywhere on my property, sometimes it says emergency, sometimes it says T-mobile, but there are no bars. I will see if I get coverage in town on the allotment and around the dog walks tomorrow.
There is a 28 day return policy so I can give it back but I really don't know what to do. Is it worth the hassle of having a new number importing phone numbers etc etc?

Plusnet, Safari 5, G5 PowerPC iMac running OSX 10.5.8, Salisbury UK : Get behind early - it gives you more time to catch up.
Just buy another Nokia similar to your old one off e-bay. You will be able to use the old charger and carry case.
Ray.

I overheard a conversation the other day in Carphone Warehouse. They were offering a basic PAYG phone for a fiver if you buy £10 top up. Not sure what network it was but it sounded like a deal if you don't use it much and don't want any frills.
if you like the new phone youve got, you could always get it unlocked for about £10...internet cafes usually offer the service, then put your old vodafone sim card in it. That way you keep your number and get the reception your used to.
If you are happy with the new handset and assuming that it is unlocked then get yourself a PAYG sim card on another network - I would suggest O2. If you want to port over your existing Vodapfone number, it is a very easy process. I have done it several times recently without any problems.
We bought a Doro phone - a phone, and text message sender/receiver. Ideal as a reserve, cos Missus Smick can use it as well. Try googling it, and you can then use any payg.
