Sorry, didn't mean to be cruel, just trying to describe.

Aren't caravans and motorhomes similar inside, mostly the same stuff? I thought so but maybe not, Alan.

Thats OK! Very Happy
I just get a lot of people saying "look at that funny caravan, is it one of those five wheeler things"

Then after a minute or two they say "what a fantatic idea" and "where can I get one" Laughing

They do have plus's and minus's like any vehicle...like no access to the hab area, generally low payloads, and they are expensive, I got a secondhand bargain with this and I feel I would have to spend around 18k to even replace/upgrade.(much as i would like access from the cab to hab when travelling.

But I will never get stuck on a muddy pitch Laughing

De-mountables are an alternative compromise, as are most motorhomes and caravans. I enjoy a good joke about the inadequacies of any type of vehicle that is not mine but in reality we all have different needs and expectations.
I cannot believe that it is acceptable to travel in the habitation area although it is not unlike a bus, where the driver is not accessible to the passengers.
Two door cars do not have an escape route from a front end fire.
Perhaps it is the tie down body that would have to be 'fail-safe' to allow passengers to travel in that area.
I also feel that for insurance purposes, the body of the 'car' does not include the extra habitation area. If it did, then one could investigate how many extra passengers (belted) it is insured to carry. With a crew cab I guess a maximum of 6 would be the norm but with the extra habitation there may be travelling space for an extra couple if it were legal.
Finally, is it practical for people to enter the habitation without the legs being down?
Nonetheless it is an interesting point of debate.
Alan

Hey its a motorhome with a removable habitation area !!! Very Happy we enjoyed ours tho not too much room for those wet days (most of the time in the u.k) however a great compromise for some.

Not sure of my pickups but there looks to be a bit too much weight behind the rear axle!

How would passengers get out in the event of a rear impact, assuming a rear door which I think is usual in demountables, Alan.

Windows?!?! Like the top deck of a bus, you can certainly get out, just not very easily!

I believe communication with rear passengers can be via radio. Some truck campers that are essentially a box bolted on, even if slightly more permanently than a dismountable, can have this set up.

If it has to be easily removable to be called a dismountable, how is "easily" defined? Wink

Have a look on the Bimobile site as they mention some sort of harness attached to the floor.
Possibly for use when travelling.
