Good luck with it but I'm totally confident that no solar panel that size can or even claims to produce over 11 amps.
Even 8 would be optimistic.

This panel is £900 and still doesn't beat 8 amps

It is a Sunshine Solar 120watt monocrystalline panel with the Dual Battery Controller and remote monitor.
Don't forget the current is dependant on the battery state as well as the sun and location - currently in Bideford Rolling Eyes The 4.5 A this morning was, I think, about 11.00 and yesterday the 11A was about 15.30 - maybe a bit before This morning the batteries we well charged and I put all the load on that I could to give some space in the battery.
I am so amazed that I'm contacting Sunshine Solar for their comments Exclamation

Keep us posted if you will?

Take onboard your comment about the state of batteries etc.

Although I thought the maximum amount of Amps through the panel is fixed by the panel itself?

When it's sunny, my panel is capable of 8 Amp per hour, but if the batteries are only wanting a small 'top up' then the system will only drip feed the necessary ampage, this could be a little as 1 amp, even if the panel is capable of producing 8.

Will be interesting to see Sunshine's comments.

Cheers

w

Have just got this from them - not very satisfactory so have gone back to them to see if they can/will say more Wink

Dear Tim

Glad you are happy with the panel we have had other customers with different solar panels saying the same recently the weather conditions have been very good long may it continue.

Thanks for the email

It is also interesting to note the very large range of panel efficiencies - from 9% to 15% for the best. That's a 66% better than the lowest Rolling Eyes

Well, this is the best they have come up with so I'm not a lot wiser:
Tim,

It's all to do with the test conditions, if the reality is that the weather is better than the test conditions it is possible to get better results.

Regards
John

I don't think so I'm afraid. The manufacturers quote the maximum output of a panel at a sun power of 1000 watts per square metre. I refer to our resident expert's guide on this forum (Frank - Sallytraffic) whose profession before retirement included the installation of large industrial solar systems.
In the guide he states:

"So this 1,000 Watts per square meter how much sunlight is that? Its about as bright as it gets at the earth's surface. You don’t really have to worry about that though."

So, referring to my own recently installed Kyocera 135W specification. The max output at 1000 W/Sq Mtr is 7.63 amps.

Sorry to draw a cloud over your apparently magical 120W panel. I would suspect the guage.

My 80w panel rated at 4.7 has in the past registered 5.3 on a Fox-D1 gauge.
I have noticed that I almost always get higher readings if there is a decent discharge due to low batteries or something else (laptop?) being charged.
