IMHO there is nothing to be gained in drilling a small hole as you are going to not only seal it with the cable through it but install a grommet over it too.
I find it best to use at least a 10mm drill or even a 14mm holesaw.
The objective being to get through the outer skin and then STOP remove the piece of outer skin (grp&plywood or whatever yours is made of) then you will have exposed the polystyrene inner of the sandwich. You can now probe this with a suitable tool (screwdriver) clearing the way to the inner skin. You will now have established for certain whether there are any wires in the way inside the roof section. If all clear then carry on.
Equally you can do the same from inside if there is room for the drill

Brilliant Andy, go to the top of the class! That's my thoughts entirely checking for cables and other obstacles is a must.

Graham

Just picked up the last two posts The idea of drilling and then seeing if there are any thing in the way Techno 100 sounds an excellent idea. Never thought of that of course!

Right Eddie the Mfg year of the rapido 786f It is a 2003 model...Would that have the wiring installed I have not seen any indication but I have not really looked. It would be great if it was!1

many thanks

alun

There will be a green electrical connector in the back of the wardrobe or there will be the correct connections in behind a removable panel in the back of the wardrobe

Eddie

Our previous Rapido was a 2003 and this was not pre wired. I believe this became standard for the 2005 model onwards. If yours is done, then as Eddie said there will be two cables behind a panel at the top of the wardrobe and the other ends will be coiled up by the leisure battery. The cables are red and blue. Also be advised that the Rapido roof outer GRP skin is not attached to the main roof section. According to Rapido this is to allow for expansion and minimise the risk of surface cracks. I was advised to secure my solar panel with mechanical fixings as well as adhesive, as wind pressure may cause the panel to lift and break away the GRP skin. I don't know how a flexible panel would react in this situation, just passing on the info I was given.

Colin This information is most useful. I am fairly certain that there is no wiring ...worst luck! as I would have noticed it previously but will check again after work tonight. Re outer roof .... that being separate I was not aware of this. I will need to be careful when drilling and more so when fixing the solar panel. This flexi panel I am fitting is only 2kg in weight and as it is spread over a 800 x 700mm footprint I think (hope) it should be OK but as you say if it was a heavy weight normal panel then without doubt a bolt fixing should be the norm. Come to think of it that is why the previous owners bolted a roof top box down on the roof as well as using sikflex.

thanks again
