I can't justify the cost of a built in dish system so I'm wondering what is the most econimical way to go. Should I wait for the Lidil to put the suitcase system on sale, or buy a dish and search for a 12volt receiver. Then make up some sort of tripod mount?
Hi if you are in Italy and this dose become a issue as to what you would like to watch, if for example you would like to view the uk programs, you'll need at least 800mm dish.... if you just want to view your local tv then a cheep system will be fine, and also the fun of locating the satelitte you might want to see... can take some time to fiddle about getting the corect satelitte..... I'm shure someone will be able to come up with a budjet system that works for them in italy, spain etc..... I could not justify a budjet system as I need my systems to work without fuss...
No Aldis in Italy as far as I know. My wife tells me I don't need to be able to watch English tv as I need to focus on my Italian language skills. We do get several English language news channels on the free sats here. But then she tells me I always read the news on the internet so why do I need tv. Do you hear me talking about a very practical Italian woman. She has broken me of my bad American spending habits for the most part.
I suppose I'm going to go back to the idea I had for a better tv antenna that can be raised on a pole attached to the bike rack.
I have an aldi/lidl not sure which (tevion) system
I have used it thoughout France and Northern Italy with no bother whatsoever! I look for other sat users or generally wave the dish about in a southerly direction until the sat finder ( a little gismo only costs about a fiver) squeals at me ! Then weigh it down with mineral water bottles. Works a treat in all but gale force weather!

Barry, Great! I've just purchased the very same from Aldi on the strength of what you have said!
Can you give me more info on the gismo you refer to and where you got if from.
I'm off to Brittany in September and the wife like's here evening TV.
I have the same but not in Italy, get a cheap compass, find the satellite and set the compass up to give the arm direction, all you now do is raise the dish to the correct ish elevation and set to the direction on the compass, mine is an easy find with led on the lnb so its quite easy but I've done it with a sat finder as well, gives you a good start and takes 4-5 mins or less when you get used to it.
My dish is fixed to the roof rack, made my own (adapted cheap mount)
and it is fixed in the down position with a bungee. all seems fine in the UK
When I purchased my first motorhome 6 weeks ago the vendor told me that the smalll white circular tv aerial attatched to the roof (which I now believe is a vision plus model) did not work. Instead he had adapted a standard tv aerial similar to the one on my house which sits on an extendable pole attached to the ladder at the back and as you can imagine - this looks rather unsightly and is a bit of a pain to set up. I am not familiar with the circular type of aerial and I dont know how they work or how good they are but I would really like to get rid of the bodged attachment to my ladder and either fix the old aerial or replace it with something better. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.
