Hi,
I recently fitted a 135w panel to my Hymer S650. As my CTEK B2B charger is fitted with a Solar Panel terminal no regulator is required so fitting was no problem at all - just a question of routing the cable. The charger selects the best source and regulates charging current automatically using MPPT technology. The system hasn't been installed long enough to fully test it's effect but no problems so far.
With this set up, apart from LED's on the charger there is no indication of what's going on so I added a Smartgauge Battery monitor which now gives me an accurate % battery charge status.

Hi I have Solar Panels with a MTTP Controller, also a B 2 B 50amp charger. I have put the supply from the MPPT to the engine battery, I have found that by doing this it makes better use of the power from the Solar Panels, as the B2B boosts the charge rate. I have two 110 amp batteries and have not used mains power for three years, admittedly I have six panels giving a total of 340 watts. The reason for six is to make the most of the roof space.

can i just clarify,

you have all solar generated power going to the cab battery?
how does this help the leisure batterys if your stationary?
thanks mark

You do not need to worry about having a solar charger and a mains charger together. They both charge the battery. As the battery voltage rises one will stop charging and then quite quickly the other also stops - depending on their exact settings.
You can get chargers that will charge two batteries (usually 90% to the leisure battery and 10% to the cab battery). I had an installation from a firm and that is all they seemed to do but it works OK.

One thing that i have found is that you need to check the electrolyte and top up with dist. water more often. I suspect that that means that the solar regulator is set to the higher voltage than the mains one was.

Hi I have connected the output from the Solar Panels to the engine battery as the battery voltage rises the Battery to Battery charger then charges the leisure batteries. I have found that this gives a better rate of charge to the leisure batteries than connecting the solar output directly to them. I have tried it both ways over quite some time and found this way is much better.
