If this is the issue, they have not conveyed this to my builder, it just appears that the much bigger producers are getting chassis and Mercedes do not care about the builders who only deal in small numbers. After all the likes of Pilot, Hymer and Autosleepers seem to be getting chassis.

I would love to know why Autotrail gave up on Mercs. Was it due to unrelaiable delivery of chassis?

Well they are not delivering. Dates promised have come and gone such I no longer believe they will even meet the next promised date, hence the change of course.

Hi all......I chatted to the owner of a newish RS Endeaver on the Iveco 6 ton chassis at the recent Statford Motorhome event. He liked the van, plenty of power from the 3L engine, well up to the task his only reservation was the 6 speed auto gearbox, which had been a problem on some hills in Devon and Cornwall. Faced with the choice again he would definately have gone for a manual gearbox........Crindle.

I have no complaints with my Iveco based chassis now......

However from new the gearbox on odd occasions would do very strange things shifting down whilst on a flat road whilst on constant throttle back to 4th from 6th, revving its tatters off then shifting up & then back again on & on. Only way to stop it was for me to override it by going to manual mode. A trip to the dealers & one software update later its been spot on since & sweeter changes to boot!

It certainly is nowhere near as good as a torque converter auto box equipped engine, but I find it perfectly acceptable & nowhere near as noisy as my previous Hymer A class (fiat based) on the road. Considering its moving 6.5tons & more often than not also towing 1.5tons whilst doing 17 mpg at a fair old lick I have no complaints.

Our RS is on the Iveco chassis. Never had a Merc to compare it to. I really like the gearbox and we recently towed a 1 ton trailer all the way to Munich and back and didn't even notice it was there (apart from the loss of 2 mpg! ).

When we had it from new, in the first couple of weeks we had it up in t he Alps and it was -16 degrees the box did some strange things but seemed to sort itself out and never had a problem since.

As I say, I can't compare it except to my N&B flair on a2.8 turbo diesel and it eats that into a cocked hat in terms of power despite being at least 50% heavier.
