Manchester Show at GMex Forums

What a disaster, now I know Manchester well so am not a stranger to the area.

The NCP people didnt turn the full signs on for the underground car park and cars were feeding through very slow (30mins from entry to exit) and on going out desevably the kiosk people were sending you accross road to another with bags of space, same story there Full but signs showing spaces, so exit again and off to my good old reliable spot.

Went in, and I must say we stopped going a couple of years ago cos whilst it was supposed to have M-Homes there, they were hard to find. People assured me last year, more van you must go.

This year we got some freeby tickets from CC so off we went,
Not many Motorhomes there so to our Lancashire and North Wales contingent who may think, we will go and have a look, save the fuel and forget it. Longer distance travelers - dont

Hi Dodger, last time we went to GMex, I think we were in and out in a couple of hours, as you say, mainly caravans.
still it was a nice day so had a stroll rond Castlefields and Harry Ramsden's for fish n chips.

Oh 'eck, I was really looking forward to going to the GMEX on Sunday. So it's not worth the effort then?
What about the accessories and stuff like that, was that any good and worth a peep? Crying or Very sad

1. No didnt take any pictures, what m-homes were there were cramped in small spaces with loads of people looking cos of the few on display - I would have taken had the show been a bit better, had camera with me.

4. Accessories, The Skillet lady is there, Towsure have a stand but not as comprehensively stocked as in previous occasions, less small stuff and more big box stuff. Fiamma on Camperlands stand, and as far as motorhomers are concerned (IMO) the rest were just junk stuff. I have no problem with non camping related suppliers (beds/chairs etc) being at these show as they obviously pay the piper but there needs to be a good selection of accessory stands as well and there aint.

I decide to go to the G mex after all and toddled off there on Sunday morning. Parking arrangements were a bit stupid with some very surly individuals sending you this way and then that way. The halls were very busy but there was enough to keep me interested for an hour or so. I'd never been to a show before so I thought that it might be worth going to this one so close to home.
A few motorhomes but a lot of people were buzzing around them so it was hard to have a really good look. It was good to compare some of those (in my sort of price range should I want to move up a bit) to what I've got - a SeA Dinghy 3, 2003 - and I came to the conclusion that what I've got suits me just fine.
It may not have too many extras but it's well put together, has a good sized shower/washroom, no oven but I don't do cooking at home anyway, Razz

comfy beds and is relatively easy to manouvre. What I couldnt understand was why so many motorhomes that are 4/5 berth have no rear seat belts? The other thing that I find incredibly useful on my motorhome is the external locker - a number of the ones I saw at the show had none.
Anyway, I'm glad I went and I managed to buy some, errr, shoe polish!!!! Laughing

We went on Sunday; parking easy straight in to one a short stroll from G-Mex at only £6 for the day - instead of £9 at the official one practically next door. Plenty of spaces.

Bought 2 rubber brushes for cleaning out the motorcaravan (BOGOF so one will come in handy at home)

Got enough blue loo stuff to last about 3 years (Towsure BOGOF) & a couple of gas canisters for the Campingaz light - 60p each, half the price of Campingaz but the chap on the Towsure stand assured me they will fit.

Got a good deal on the motorcaravan awning off the Glossop caravans stand (NR) but had to wait till the end of the day to collect it.

Kids weren't impressed as not as much to do as at the NEC when we went last year but I enjoyed the day. Looked at quite a few motorhomes, bit disappointed there weren't more van conversions, but I fell in love with the new Adria Win - 3 berth, suit us fine.

Downside was G-Mex isn't well sign posted - found it by following 2 cars in front with towballs on! Got really lost coming out of Manchester as M62 not well signed either, but made it home in the end.
