A Battery acid tester for less than £5 will tell you the condition of each of the cells. I had a problem with a 110AH battery and it showed instantly that one of the cells had gone.

Replaced it with a 120AH from Alpha Batteries in Rochdale for £65 with a 3 year guarantee, if you call and ask they get batteries in with slight cosmetic damage which they can't sell, still guaranteed though.

Make sure each cell is topped up periodically and checked with the acid tester and there is no reason why the battery shouldn't last for years.

Thanks all, the batteries are sealed so i can't check individual cells unfortunately. Final test results are:
Battery 1 - start volts 12.36, 3.5 hours later 7.9v with a 55w spotlight connected. Back to 10.2 this morning.
Battery 2 - start volts 12.85 3 hours later 10.19v using same light.
Think it's time for new ones. Just getting phone numbers to start ringing around. Checked Halfords website, £139.99 for 100a with 2 year warranty. Ha! Ha! Nearly fell off the chair.

Thanks all for you inputs on this one. I've bought 2 130AH Crown batteries from SUPAC Batteries in Merthyr for £100 each. They an American made deep cycle battery recommended for heavy use in RV's. The guys there recommended these for the type of heavier use I was looking for. Hope they're as good as they are made out to be.

Yep sounds good then well done let's have some feed back around mid winter and that's a very good test.... As they (as all are) only about 50% efficient.... If they work well then... It's a good advert for them.... We learn every day..... Happy camping...
