At a £100-200 a day fine if the greater London area is entered ! and less than Six months to sort things do we Know if it is possible or practical to fit particulate filters to the majority of VW Diesel engines, and has anyone done it, if so what is the anticipated cost/effect, or will the market be flooded with VW diesel motorhomes- after all London today -Birmingham Bristol Glasgow or Paris tomorrow? If you plan to do it are you aware it will take approx 3 months to get your certificate of compliance or what ever it's called. Thoughts and comments please.

have a look at this

http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ftopict-100776-london.html+low+emission+zone

there have been loads of threads on the LEZ - try a search by using the maginifying glass icon next to the "search forums" at teh top left. Then enter "low emissions zone" and press enter. You'll get loads of threads. Rolling Eyes Some are in UK touring, some in technical.

I'll move this to base vehicle forum, as it's not just VW campers that are affected!!

I have already read the thread thanks, it seemed to be directed at the residents of Greater London - my question points out the anticipated consequences of the L E Z i.e the disposal of Diesel Motor Homes- that seems to be the favoured option at the moment,- so when the rest of GB and Europe decide to do the same- what then- is every one waiting for the particulate filters to become cheaper or has anyone had it done yet that was the question- and has it effected the engine performance?

As Germany already -so I am told require compliance- would it be cheaper to have the job done there.?

There are many of us waiting to have a particulate filter fitted. However there isnt one ready yet for motorhomes. Clean Diesel have some on test at various garages.

Yes I am aware that it takes 3 months to register and I only have until the end of September to sort something out. If its not sorted I will have to store it or park it 250 yards away outside of the zone.

Now this is the unreasonable bit, non compliant MH's even if they're willing to pay for DPF to be fitted can't do so as they don't exist!! What a shambles...........
Do diesel particulate filters make any difference anyway?

My husband is just back from North Germany seeing relatives, They told him that it's been found that they don't make any difference at all and Wiesbaden, for example, isn't insisting on having them fitted.

He was told that some think this is just a money making scheme...

Has anyone had their diesel engine converted to LPG?

I have just been on the phone to the AA- and the general opinion is that the LEZ requirement is unreasonable in view of the lack of technical advancement, I have been informed that Mr Edward King is compiling a case possibly towards this end due to the state of readiness that it is unreasonable to enforce the LEZ at this moment in time. The cost and inadequacy of DPF are also sounding like a new way to throw money away!

Members of the AA should contact this organisation ASAP to add their

Ramblington, I passed ]through Germany last month i enquired at a motorhome outlet and was told that the modification to my 2.8 jtd would cost 1500 euros all in, not sure if this mod would meet LEZ requirements or how the annual test would be done. Having been quoted 2-3k in England this could be a winner.I think it will take a fluent German speaker to find out all the facts as i do not speak the language

Diesel engines (in road vehicles) cannot be converted to run on LPG only petrol engines. yes I know some large marine engines can use some LPG but it is just not practical in a road vehicle.
