looking at the roof of my van there is plenty of space to fit solar panel/s, there also seems to be in place a factory fitted a socket for the wiring which ends up in the locker with the batteries and charger unit.
so as mentioned that over the last 5 years there have been improvements to solar panels and it is thought that we should use mppt type regulator.
this has been very interesting reading, but still leaves me unsure as which type of panel I should go for, have thought that a 130 watt panel should be enough.can we have some guidance on this, say a recomended panel and supplier/fitter.
unfortunately not able to do d.i.y nowadays.
The more i read up on this the less i m convinced of what to buy , having thought i was nearly ready to !!!!
(I ve never measured more than 13.7v from my alternater to my leisure batteries so i conceed there must be some voltage drop via the split charge relay....)

It does depend on the age of the vehicle, modern alternators go to over 14V, older ones considerably lower.
as I requested information about who could supply and fit a solar panel thank you for the pm, any other trader wish to pm me with advice etc.it will be most welcome.
Seems the positioning of panels can further add to output and make a big difference.....
Put them on just a 10% incline and you ll get a 15% increase in output if you park up facing them south as opposed to having them flat on the roof..... The added bonus is the obvious, in that rain simply runs off them....
Amazingly by using an mppt (up to 30% ) and a 10% incline , a combined 45% increase in performance is possible.
I like to point the van West so the awning side gets the Sun all day.
It would be very easy to bracket the panels on a slant but you'd be stuffed on CC sites when they TELL YOU how to park
was also thinking about security for my investment left on the roof
going to add a microwave sensor as i ve had a full system before .... they dont false alarm and can be mounted inside a cupboard to protect the ladder and bike rack outside ... could nt believe they are this cheap now..
