If the heater is a Truma combined water and air (as on our 2008 Bessacarr) you turn it on gas as follows:
(1) Press the "water on" button on the control panel a greed light should come on. Ignore the air heating on button it does not do anything.
(2) Turn the Truma control knob to gas (flame symbol)
(3) Turn the next Truma knob to "40" or "60" depending on the water temperature required.
It is important to set the controls in that order or the Truma shows a fault and won't work. This is why you cannot use the timer on the control panel.
When you turn off do so on the Truma control knob not the control panel. The air fan will then come on to cool down the works before you can turn off at the control panel. Truma (UK) tell me that this is important. If you just turn off at the control panel it is not good for the heater.

Very Happy Success - we had a play tonight and we got hot water! We followed Safariboy's instructions - but got a red light.

We found we had to have the water pump on, the water button on, the heater button on to get a result, allbeit we had the thermostat off on the heater, if we turned the heater button off it all went off!

Hubby managed to get rid of the red light by turning the left hand dial down onto water & heat, then off for a second then back onto water heating only? Very odd. Do you reckon we have a faulty panel? or is that the norm?
