MERSEYSIDE and Cheshire face a 60% chance of widespread disruption from heavy snow today.
Temperatures in many parts of England and Wales were expected to be between -4 to -7C, resulting in fog and icy conditions.
A Met Office spokesman said: "We are expecting a heavy band of drifting snow to move across the country from the West to the East on Thursday.
"This will turn to rain later, but temporary accumulations of snow on the ground are likely to be between 2cm and 5cm.
"However, on some higher ground in the North West, there could be accumulations of 10cm."
Kent, eastern England and eastern Scotland yesterday took the brunt of the freezing weather which led to severe disruption on the roads and railways.
Overnight temperatures were expected to plunge as low as minus 10C (14F) in some places, with most of eastern England unlikely to see the thermometer rise
above freezing today. Super-market giant Tesco ordered more winter-warmer foods after customers snapped up soups, curries and hot chocolate.
To add to motorists' problems, some petrol stations ran out of fuel following the Buncefield oil depot fire at Hemel Hempstead. But oil companies said there were good supplies and there was no need for panic buying.
Some areas of Kent were reported to have received as much as 12 inches of snow yesterday. Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Norfolk, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire were among other areas where snow showers persisted.
So now you know
Be safe out there.

Good to know. Why do they call cold weather a "Cold Snap"? Do we get "Hot Snaps"?
