Yes and no. Think of it in terms of a "sealed" square tent, with tube to the motorhome of the same width.

The wall of the tent facing the motorhome can either be in place (in which case the tent is sealed, but it's sealed separate from the motorhome) or rolled up (in which case the whole awning is accessible from the motorhome, but you would still need a skirt if you were bothered about draughts from that direction).

We don't bother with an awning skirt...it's a waste of time as the "tube" to the motorhome doesn't sit 100% airtight against the van in any case.
