Hi all,

Our F45 wind out has a couple of aluminium rafters that are spring loaded and fit at 90 degrees to the side of the van (not the type that bridge the awning extending arms).

Do those of you that use them have anything fitted at the edge furthest away from the van, for the rafter to locate on to, or do you just let them sit in the track, using the force of the spring loading to keep them in place ?

There are a couple of plastic brackets approx 6 feet in from the ends of the track, but I'm not sure if they're actually anything to do with the rafters (they may help the awning locate back into the box when it gets retracted) and there's nothing about their shape to suggest they are to do with the rafters.

Pics available if there's any confusion Very Happy

Ken.

Wouldn't mind some pictures, because your description's curious to me...the rafter we had on our Fiamma (we now have an Omnistor on present van) wasn't spring loaded - it extended then you tightened it in position. That one had hooks on each end that fitted into a clip at the van end & extending end.

Either it's a non-standard rafter you got, or totally different design to what we had (or rather have...it's "filed" in the house garage somewhere...must get around to ebaying it).

Paul

could it be the safari room poles you are talking about, try going onto the Fiamma website and see what they list.
Is your awning a zip one or ready for clip on sides.

Cabby,

It doesn't have any zips, so I'm guessing its the clip type. Fiamma catalogue shows the rafters, but there are no listings for the locators.

Paul,

The rafter is one of the few that are in the Fiamma catalogue and the 3rd pic shows the instructions on the rafter. They seem to show some sort of locator on the track (B), which we don't have.

The 2nd pic shows the end of the rafter, which looks like it should fit over the locator in the first depiction.

The 1st pic shows the only clips on our track (other than the centrally positioned lock plate)

Hi Ken

I have a pair of these sprung rafters.

They locate between the two folding rafters of the awning. I have two red locators on the awning edge and two clips (probably not the right term) on the body of the awning case on the side of the van. The end of the sprung rafters shown in your pic goes onto the red locator,

If you don't have these then I am not sure I can help.

Regards

Dick

Thanks Dick,

In that case its the red locators that I'm missing.

I've been using the rafters without the locators in place, but recently had an incident where one of the rafters slid and released itself, allowing the awning to buckle with an unexpected gust of wind, causing a small tear in the fabric.

The other end of the rafter doesn't fit into a locator either, it has a shaped plastic profile which sits in a channel.

I'll see if I can get any more sense out Fiamma tomorrow, now that I know the locators actually exist.

Best of luck with Fiamma Sad I emailed them aking if they could ID an awning that was not listed on their site so that I could order some parts,,,,,they replied telling me to ID the awning from their list and then look up the required parts Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad I replied that as it wasn't listed this was difficult, they then replied that it could be one of two items depending on the awning length, it would help if they'd said which one was for which Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes the saga is ongoing,

We have one of those its the Fiamma Rafter L. Ours fits onto a screw head that was fitted to the centre of the wind out part (farthest from the van) & is a fairly snug fit. The screw is a similar size to the ones that hold the clips that the legs clip onto. Sorry can't be more helpful, these bits were in place when we bought the van.
