Title above says it all really. I am considering having a dome system installed. The two that seem most popular are Tracvision and Camos. Anyone with coments on either would be welcome
I would prefer the low profile ones Tracvision R4sl or Camos 30cm
The Camos appears to use no current when locked on which is useful when not on hook up but not sure whether that is the case with Tracvision.
There are price differences as well. It appears that a Camos installed is about the same as a Tracvision not installed.
Don,t really expect to go far into Europe, mainly UK and possibly Brittany occasionally
Any comments on operation, how long do they take to lock, how noisey etc. etc.
I have the tracvision R4 fitted I have had it for 2 years and am very pleased with it once locked on you can switch it off at the panel and use no power at all regarding noise when tracking hardly noticeable .We have travelled to Switzerland this year and picked up all the channels we use in the UK .If I was to buy another one it would be the low profile type simply because it is less visible
Very friendly and knowledgeable guy who will fully explain the workings.
I have had mine nearly 12 months now and had no problems whatsoever, coverage was good in most of France and Northern Spain.
Locks on very quickly and once on does NOT use any power.
Can't comment on Camos, but I am sure some users will enlighten you.
Nick can either supply or supply and fit. I also live down in Cornwall so a trip up to Bridgwater needs to be planned to coincide with a journey up that way to a campsite or whatever, which is what we did, and Nick's lovely wife will take and bring you back from Burnham whilst Nick get's on with the fitting and she will also bring you back.
Keith
p.s.
Tracvision fitted = £1649 Camos 30cm = £1525

hi dave
phil from rhino installs has just fitted a new camos 40cm dome for me, had it about 6 weeks locks on within 30 secs everytime .
i am well pleased with it and the installation, although one thing to bear in mind the new camos with gps and autoskew cannot be turned of when it finds the satellite like the old one could. so you will always be drawing power when in use
frank
Thanks for all the replies, lots to consider, difficult to choose between them although I would like to uise no power once locked especially when not on hook up so it may mean the Tracvision if I have read the posts correctly
Thanks again
Dave
I have had a Camos 40 static for two years and am very happy with it. It normally locks on very quickly - can take a little longer if the 'line of sight' to the satellite is compromised (e.g. bits of trees in the way). It makes a brief but slight buzzing noise when searching. I think this is the elevation motor. Once locked on, it can be switched off.
I know the new autoskew Camos models require minimal current during use, but you might look at the Roadpro site and see their range. They were the importers for Camos, but seem to have stopped stocking the new Camos domes. Now they have Roadpro branded domes that look just like the older Camos models. I understand these were made under licence for Camos, not made by them.
I also have the Tracvision dome R4SL(SL stands for slimline) and have been very pleased with it in nearly 2 years. It is only a 30 cm dish but has worked well all over the UK and France down to the med.
It did lose BBC1 near St Tropez but I retuned to BBC London which is a stronger signal than our local BBC.
I can confirm that it uses no current when locked onto the satellite(usually less than 20 seconds) and the control box can be switched off.
I have no experience of the camos but it always seems to get good reports on here,I think you will be happy with either dome tbh.

The main difference is quality. KVH are the worlds largest dome manufacturer and their domes are made on factories owned by them.
KVH also offer a three year European warranty which is useful should you get problems on holiday
The KVH can be switched off when locked on and then uses no power.
KVH can be seen on most of the multi million pound luxury yachts at the boat show which is a sign of their quality and durability
Wi World make the old Camos dome, it is also available with a Road Pro badge or VDO badge, so if your buying on price pick the cheapest version of the above, if your interested in quality buy the KVH in my opinion
