last year had lots of trouble with imobilisor
sometimes need to unplug it then plug back in to start if fault light stops on.
that was ok but this year the light comes on sometimes when i'm driving and lack of power till light goes out
was happening for a few seconds but now can stop on for 30 secs at a time.
tried connecting to a diagnostic machine but for some reason it will not connect to it
going to france in 3 weeks but need this sorting.
only happened while driving this yr after i'd put battery back on but leads seem tight could be a loose wire cos it doesn't always do it
just come back from skeggy and did 100 miles before it happened.
frustrating because it's something simple but it's just finding the problem.
think i'm gunna take immobilisor off and replace with alarm system
anyone had any trouble similar to this.
it's an 02 fiat ducato 2.8jtd ci 141 riviera

Hi,
It's a bit confusing I can't see how an immobiliser reduces the power as I would have thought it would be all or nothing.

well that was the problem last year
a mechanic in france told me if when i start if the red light stops on remove the plug then plug it back in and it goes out and starts.
the prob i have now might not be related but the warning light comes on while i'm driving and u can feel the lack of power sometimes it happens quit frequently but other times it doesn't happen for miles i just darn't go to france when i can't trust it.
gunna try again 2mora to get a diagnostic check done but previously have not been able to connect to it don't know why

It seems a bit ironic, given your forum name, that this should be happening (the red light I mean).

Instead of shouting "Come on you Reds", you are shouting "Geroff you red".

On a serious note, if this has happened since you had the battery off, I would use a good auto electrician, as an intermittent fault can trouble you for a long time.

Best of luck. Very Happy

I thought the red light was the injection system warning light.

Just had a similar problem on my transit van, everyone thought it was the imobiliser but in the end turned out to be the Ecu, ended up costing quite a lot but the inconvenience over a 3 month period because it was intermitant was the worst, recovered 4 times by the AA.

Hi,
It's probably worth, if you haven't already done so, reseating all the sensor cables that you can find and also the ECU plugs.

A trip to a Fiat main agent might be the best (but not cheapest) option.

From the symptoms you describe I don't think the immobiliser is the problem,as has already been said it is either ok or not in which case the engine would not start.

It needs plugging in to a proper diagnostic tester to ascertain what the fault is,if it is an intermittent fault(the worst sort)then even this may not detect the fault.

A Fiat dealer will not be cheap, you may be able to find a reputable auto electrician with the correct diagnostic equipment locally.
