The van I bought recently (Autohomes Fiat Camelot) has 4 seats (2 x front driver and passenger) and 2 rear fold down seats that make into either 2 singles or alternatively, 1 double bed (when front seats and other cushions are brought into play). As the van is a 1989 and therefore nearly 17 years old, the covers are rapidly starting to wear thin. Does anyone have any suggestions/tips on either a DIY removal and replacement of these cushions (not sure if the wife is up for this, but I know I would probably make a pig's ear of it..!) or whether I should try to get replacements from a breakers, or alternatively, get them professionally recovered (I am thinking of the costs here...).

If someone has attempted a similar task in the past and has replaced the covers successfully, I would be very interested to hear of any tips on doing this?

Regards

Hi Mike,

We had new zipped covers made for an Autoroller 2, about 18 months ago.

They were made by Perth Upholstery & cost Ģ220 for the whole lot & a quality job too (the local caravan dealers use them).

That should give you a guide even if you don't live in Scotland (dunno where you are as there is no location shown in your user profile).

I'm sure others will be along soon with other options.

Hope you get sorted (and your wife dos'nt get to read your post)

That sounds quite reasonable really - I will try to find and contact them for a quote - Many thanks.

I hope she doesn't see it too!

I live in Coventry - so a fair distance from Scotland, but I am sure that they would do 'mail order'.

Many thanks

Mike

Hi
I contacted these guys as they seem to have a very good reputation, however they were not interested in quoting to do a reupholstery job on our RV, I think they specialise in the caravan type cushions and not the RV type and certainly not barrel chairs unfortunately, so we are still looking.....

Good luck and if you find someone can you let us all know?

Keith

The driver's seat on my 1989 Talbot was deformed as well as worn ( probably due to the 100+k mileage Laughing )

In fact I never did do anything about it apart from putting on a set of car seat covers, but I once was told that Rover 213 front seats would make a reasonable exchange for these without too much fettling, the Vanden Plas versions being leather.

I scrapped a 213 not very long before I was given this information Evil or Very Mad

Regal Upholstery, who usually attend the shows, display a refurbished captains chair on their stand, priced, I believe at around Ģ100

Mike,
I was quoted Ģ1100 by an upholsterer that advertised in MMM.
After I got over the shock I was advised that ANY domestic upholsterer would be able to do it, you had to remove the seats and take them to them, they should give you a quote in the vehicle. Car trimmers will also quote.
My man quoted for my Hymer 544 including captains seats Ģ500, if I supplied the material. Which I wanted to do as I had a particular style in mind.
My wife and daughter have decided to tackle the rear seating because on closer examination they are quite simply made. The front being more complicated are being left to the professional.
It's common sense really a front seat is about the same as an armchair, he is charging me Ģ120 per seat.

Many thanks once again to all that have replied to my posting - I think I might look for an upholstery firm in Coventry first and get them to quote me on the seats, but if I find it too expensive I will look at the other contacts supplied and see what they suggest.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and extremely happy and healthy 2006

Kind regards to all

Mike
