Recommendation by water pump manufacturers is 1ml of bleach per 1 ltr. Leave for 2 hours and flush 3 times. make sure you open all taps incl shower. Leave them to run until you know the bleach is all around the system.

When emptying,it will clean your waste tank as a added bonus.

In answer to why water companies don't clean out there pipes is, The chlorine does IT for them, but in Mh tanks or similar it gases of after 24 hours, thus leaving us exposed to Legionnaires or similar bacteria. For those who say we have never had a problem, Its Luck.

Prevention is better than cure, that's why we have Vehicles Serviced

Those with plastic sinks are OK with bleach as long as you wash it thoroughly.

Household bleach contains surfactants which may cause taste problems, also bleach will loose its strength over time (50% in 3 months shelf life)so it cannot be relied upon when calculating the dosage strength which is paramount. Water company's do clean their mains when they have been exposed to the atmosphere using sodium hypochlorite at varying strengths dependant upon the contact time employed they also use hygiene methods when doing repairs. From time to to time they may use pressure flushing and air scouring too. Of course M/H tanks are exposed to the atmosphere all the time so I do agree prevention is better then cure and for some micro-organisms there is no cure. I drink from my tanks so I ensure that they are clean using my regime guide see my article here

Regards,

Graham
