I use an omnistor safari room but do have a Dorema free standing Highlander 11 awning that I no longer use. Have used it twice only and it is in good condition. Being canvas, it stays cooler in summer but is still warm in cooler weather.

I live in Taunton, Somerset if you would like to see it.

Thanks Sue if you think it would fit our motorhome. How much did you want for the awning? Could arrange for one of us to come to see as you are not far away from us.

I`m going to put my foot in it here.

Awnings are a bit of kit you carry so that you can carry even more kit in the mh for hols. Unless staying for a few nights at the same place I found them a chore.
Now have windout sun shade, no extra to pay on site fees and a windbreak that has never seen daylight in 7 years.

funnily enough we are having the same debate at the moment having discovered our driveway was a waste.

We have come up with he following options (only investigated fiamma so far)

1. Fiamma F45
2. Fiamma Zip (without sides can add these later)
3. Fiamma Zip full with sides.

Price wise not much between the f45 and ZIP however the full zip is £700 more for the 2 sides and front. Having spent the last 3 hrs reading it looks to like the fiamma zip room is really no replacment for a propa awning is this correct?

How much space do the sides and poles take up when not in use?

We only tour in the UK at the moment so our main use is to keep the british showers from spoiling our BBQ's and extend the outdoor living.

I have read alot about wind causing problems...is this true again as we tour Britain wind will be a factor.

confused.

We have just bought a outdoor revolution drive away, movelight xl. I have no idea what it is going to be like, we have not had a practice run yet. Bought mainly for if we stay for a week or more with granddaughter. From Go Outdoors for £250. Other types in range.

We selling our Movelite Pro XL as the wife has taken ill and she cant really help me put it up only used 3 times. From memory the only difference to yours is ours has metal side polls and fibre glass roof polls where as yours is all FG.

We found it good although trying to put it up in the wind was hard - forget any traditional or even modern tent erection it was very puzzling however our second attempt was fine but then the 3rd on my own was nightmere you defiantly need a second person.

Hi,

I think its 'horses for courses'.

We have had a privacy room - good fit and nice size but tiresome to put up and quite heavy.

Also had a movelite Xl driveaway - lightweight, quick to put up but space limitted to central area (due to height restriction of dome shape), also not 'fitted' to van so can be a little draughty.

Finally have an kham awning which we have to thread through the wind out awning. Its spacious, light and airy, quick to put up and fits quite snuggly to the van but weighs 4 times as much as the movelite drive away.

We are now thinking of touring Europe where it will be much hotter than here so we are considering the 'nets' which are light, give you a modecom of privacy and keep the mossies and wind out.

The nets and privacy room also let you just put just one or two sides up to act as a wind breaker.

Guess it all depends on the weather and where you are going and if you have any weight restrictions.

Good luck.

The OH has just asked what do most people get classed as with a Fiamma Awning [MHF Link] on camp sites is it a gazebo or awning?

Currently the site are on charge £2 for an awning and £5 for a gazebo

Surprised so we would defiantly have an awning here haha but it might not stay up so do we have to pay at all?
