Hi
I have now got the axles weighed and all the measurements of axle distances including overhang for my Autotrail Mohican using a PWS tow bar.
I am hoping to put a Lambretta weighing 105kg on a rack but wondered if any one has experience of the various racks available.

Also if there is any formular which would tell me if I can indeed put both the rack and scooter safely on.

Regards
Terry

Hi

There is a guide available in the download section.

I have not had reason to use it but it looks OK.

Thanks guys
I've worked out that "D" = 227.90kg.
What does this mean please?

I'm just going through the same process, although I havent even got a tow bar as yet.. My van is an Apache 700, which I think may be very similar..

D - appears to be the weight applied to the rear axle once you allow for the leverage effect of the rear hangover..
Looks like it's going to be very close on the limits for me even with a 105kg bike, 28kg rack... Also we have air ride and an increased rear axle weight from 2100kg to 2300kg.... Still very close...

Out of interest what are your figures B & C for the mohican.
Mine are 400 and 645. makes a 140kg load into 225 on the axle.!!!

Hi Steve

My figures were as follows.
A= 403kg
B= 247cm
C= 650cm
D= 217.74kg

I have not had a reply from this enquiry yet so dont know the outcome.

I have sent information off to Watling engineers who have come back with the following.

Vehicle Make = mercedes 316, Model = 316, Year = 2002

Maximum Mass of motorhome = 3800

Maximum front axle load = 1750

Maximum rear axle load = 2240

Actual front axle load = 1240

Actual rear axle load = 2000

Wheelbase of motorhome = 4030

Overhang from rear axle to rear of bumper/valance = 2470

Mass of Motorbike/Scooter = 105

From the information you have provided us about your motorhome and its
weights and measurements, we have calculated that with the addition of our
Motorack (30kg) and a scooter of 105kg, you would have 10kg available from
your rear axle load and 425kg available from your gross vehicle load.

We would therefore recommend that a Watling Motorack would be (just) perfect
for your needs. However, it might be a good idea to move some of your
luggage further forward to free up some capacity on the rear axle.

This apparently is very close but just suitable but by moving the awning forward from the rear storage cupboard would allow the rack and bike to work with a bit more safety.

I also have air suspension which again apparently helps.

Now I have had a positive reply from Watling engineers I will go ahead and get a rack but my query now is which rack will be most suitable for a Lambretta?

Hope the above helps
Regrads
Terry Crook

Terry..
Also remember that when they quote bike figures they are dry.. No oil, petrol etc.. So a little more needs to be added to cover this..
Yep.. it's VERY close, just like mine....

Will give it all a bit more thought before I commit..

Another Lambretta owner on here! Can't help with your question though, I have a rack and will be getting it put on at some stage but the bikes are doing the job at the moment.

What scoots do you have? I've got an Imola 186, a GP 200 and a Vespa T5.

Well i've re-visited the weighbridge, checked the figures again AND took the plunge...
Van is booked in on the 25th July for a towbar, scooter rack that slides in "trombone" style and a 50cc new scooter.. It's all as a package deal. So will try the 50cc and if it really is as bad as i think I will sell it on and get a 125cc..

Using the calculator we should be all fine on weights plus I can always run a bit lighter with water as the main tank is right between the rear axle..

Fingers crossed..
