Just been offered what seems like a really good deal with Three but I'm not sure what it's network coverage may be like. I've tried to check it out on internet but can only find 'their' own data which is probably not all that truthful.

I'm with o2 at moment and it is reasonable here but often poor signal indoors but they can't get even close to the deal Three are offering so I'm tempted to take a chance.

Is this a case of 'If it seems too good to be true then it probably is'?

Anyone got Three Very Happy

I do know they use the dreaded Indian call centres which is a major disappointment Sad

We had Three a couple of years ago it wasn't too bad but sometimes couldn't get a signal indoors. Did try a Three dongle as well but it wouldn't load, their UK technical help were about 10 steps down from useless, then tried the Indian call centre who were very good. They cancelled the contract, refunded our money and arranged for the dongle to be picked up.

We have used a '3' Broadband dongle on our boat for the last couple of seasons without any real problems along the Channel coast. Having said that we are not always able to use our mobiles at home (just outside Exeter, small village) on O2.

I think the biggest issue would be what the coverage is like in the area that you usually use the phone. All networks seem to have weak areas of coverage.

We live in NW Kent and have only ever had o2 in all the years we have had mobile phones (I think they used to be BT prior to that and can't remember who it was before BT but have never changed supplier so I'm a bit nervous).

I know Vodaphone is rubbish in this area as both my son & daughter tried them and Orange equally poor. My DIL has T Mobile and lives just down the road from us and is fine. Its just Three I cant find out about.

I got through originally to a lovely helpful girl in Scotland but now can only get through to an Indian call centre despite the girl giving me her extension number - they wont (or can't) transfer the call to her.
I'm sorry but if they call me Ma'am one more time I will scream. Mad

I've been using a 3 Mobile dongle for the last three years and the coverage has noticeably improved over the period and it it unusual for us not to get an Internet connection. The dongle was replaced a year ago for a MiFi one which is a great improvement as it can be positioned to receive the strongest signal.

I've also had an Android HTC Desire phone since Christmas and this again is excellent. Of course the Internet reception is similar to the dongle but the phone coverage is good. Perhaps not quite as good as my previous Vodafone but not far short. But it's more than compensated by the superior 3G coverage which I think is far better than Vodafone.

But no doubt others will disagree!

Hi

I have a THREE mobile and a dongle - very rarely does it not work. Admittedly in present location the connection is "iffy" but I can usually get on.

I will say the old E220 dongle is better as it can go out of the window etc.

Another MHF member wrote a review about THREE mobile on his blog - THREE review

Well not me Wink

I use a 3 dongle and have got a signal almost everywhere except in the depths of remote Welsh valleys where there isn't any TV reception let alone cellphone coverage.

You do need to remember that just moving a few yards or even feet can sometimes produce (or lose) a signal.

I sometimes use my dongle on a USB extension lead and that allows it to be moved around to help to find a signal if it's a bit iffy.

3's 3G network is not as good as they would have you believe and they are not that clever of switching you to an alternative 2G connection (it was Orange upto about 18mths ago) Bear in mind where we camp is not always the best spot for radio waves.

I found 3s packages ok, didnt have any issues with them on the commercial side and they were fine when I was leaving. Much better customer suport than Vodafone who I moved to.

Vodafone has a better 3g network but the number of times the phone switches to 2g and back again is being monitored at the moment by the app that was launched this week for Androids.

The Vodafone 3g dongle in rural areas is not the greatest gizmo I have ever bought but it is the payg one where the cash doesnt run out at the end of the month.

We have two iPhones on Three. Where we live the signal is brilliant, and travelling around the signal has been far better than I expected, in real life not really any different than any other network, to be honest.

The all you can eat data is fantastic, and with 2000 minutes and 5000 texts for £25/month we have given up using the house phone, pretty much.

But no network works everywhere and because for family reasons we need security of signal, for complete cover in the UK we also carry a cheap dual sim phone with two PAYG sims in (Voda + Orange/T-Mobile).

Abroad Three is the same as any other network - you're roaming.

If you go into a Three shop they have available a much more detailed map showing transmitters - which shows the nearest transmitter - 200 metres from our house - is on Three.

Until BT upgraded our exchange to 20 Mbps maximum and we now get about 14 Mbps on our Broadband, the 7.2 Mbs we get on Three 3G was faster than the BT 5 Mbps on an 8 Mbps exchange.

Thanks for taking time to reply with your experiences which is really helpful.
I will be using an HTC Wildfire S mobile phone which has the latest version of Android (2.3 Gingerbread) OS.
I do have a Vodaphone dongle for mobile internet connection on one of the old rolling £15 top up contracts. This works fairly well for when we are in the campervan and out and about but the new phone is my first smart phone. Hubby has an Apple iphone 3GS but it is all new to him a well so we are both on a huge learning curve.
