Has anyone got any recommendations for a good tough basic cellphone?

Requirements are

1 hardwearing
2, good loud speaker and ringtone
3 simple to use phone
4 possible to leave set on normal texting (had a samsung that every single time you had to turn off predictive)

I have seen the JCB tough phone but heard mixed reports about them, anyone got one? and how do they fit in with the above?

Thanks
Jon

After breaking several mobile phones in the last few years I have had a Samsung B2100 for about 2 years now.It may have been a combination of a delicate phone and heavy handedness but my previous phones weren't lasting long enough.

http://www.rightmobilephone.co.uk/DisplayUserReviews_m868-r17668_Samsung-B2100.html

It will do all the things that you have stipulated and more,is a fairly basic but very robust model.I have dropped it several times onto a hard surface which I am sure would have been the end of lesser phones, but it is still going strong.

It is also fairly water resistant,I dropped mine in the river whilst fishing and for a couple of seconds the phone was totally immersed but it is still working well Smile

I`ve still got my Nokia builders phone as I call it, old thing with rubber casing, only stopped using it cos I could no longer see the screen, sand and dust have got in and scratched it. Last couple of years I`ve gone through all the phones wife and daughter no longer use, problem is they`ve all been large screen which cracks easily when you stick em in your pocket with a screwdriver/pencil or something then bend down.
Best one lately was a Nokia flip phone, it even survived 30 minutes at the bottom of a water tank in 20,000 gallons of water. eventualy died when it fell off a roof.
Current phone is sony ericson w910i seems to be wearing well, bigger screen but has a plastic cover thing, good loud ring ring tone.
I only use them as a phone or text, I`m a builder for chrissakes!!!

Samsung B2700 is the latest incarnation of their tough phone- £100. It's quite good.

Strewth Tony.
Builder or demolition man...????? Surprised

My phones last forever as I tend to take care of them. Don't want the hassle of learning a new system.

Ray.

Thing is Ray I`m afraid I dont look after them! they get chucked about, left on walls etc. but I have an endless supply, daughter is a real technophobe, swaps and changes on a whim, at the moment she`s got a galaxy, iphone, think its jhc and a blackberry plus the ipad and I dont know how many laptops, buys them just if she likes the colour, same with digital camera`s, good thing is I have`nt had to buy one for years, dunno what I`m going to do when she gets married next year and moves out.

ps. I`ve made a note of your number, off to france next weekend for 5 weeks but have`nt decided whereabouts yet.

I would say any Nokia.

But nothing with a touch screen, as a small crack can make it useless.

The construction firm I worked for gave out a new phone each year, and the rubbery Nokia didn't really do any better than any of the others. Perhaps worse because dirt got up inside the casing and clogged the buttons.

The JCB is supposed to be really loud and has two speakers I think? If it is that loud maybe you should be waiting till you are somewhere quieter so you can remove your hearing protection, rather than needing a louder phone to compete with everything else! Wink
