Wife bought herself a home brew kit t'other day. The instructions say to use a pressure barrel. We have loads of empty 2ltr cola bottles so could she use these instead. As she says opening a 2 ltr bottle as and when would be better than a 40 ltr. barrel.

I use to use them before I got a barrel.

Beer matures much better if kept in bulk such as a barrel.

haven't 'home brewed' for donkey years. Crikey it were good stuff and never had a headache the morning after.

I've never tried brewing in 2ltr plastic bottles, but surely you'd need to worry about pressure build-up?

My pressure barrels have a pressure relief valve at the top, so I know the thing can't explode!

I can still remember the look on my dads face from childhood (R.I.P) having used corked wine bottles and the renault fuego took the brunt of it....
But then , he was a man capable of using superglue on the metal handbrake mount of a car after shearing a bolt !!!!

you would have a problem with plastic bottles, not only with cleaning & sterilising, but with the pressure. Don't forget that the beer will still be working!
I always re-used beer bottles (older ones were thicker than the recyclable ones used now), and had a supply of crown corks and a tool to bash them on with.

Right forget all that motorhome stuff this is serious. Bought a pressure barrel today and got the brew in it. I take it the the bit on top has a valve in it to release the pressure if it builds up to much and this needs no fiddling from me. Answers please from all you brewers
.
Thanks.
