When our motorhome was 6 month old the wiring harness was renewed due to it being partly burnt out due to the connections from the Oyster dish and the Cruise control being Scotlocs and not soldiered.
Anyway the cost was £2800 which should have been paid by the dealer who we bought it from but never was.
i never said it was a problem .i just wanted to let others know that there maybe be a problem for others
If you had mentioned that you had a warranty and there wasn't a problem then people might not have gone to the effort of trying to find a way of helping you.
Thank you for your observations about potential loom issues on a fairly new van. It makes you wonder if this is a design fault or in some way generated by using the vehicle.
As repair costs are substantial, it may be helpful to know, after the repairs are made, how the damage was caused and in which area.
I must admit that I am shocked that a whole loom needs replacing for what would seem to be a localised problem but hey, they are paying!
Has there been any progress/ action over this possible loom failure?
The orignal was posted some months ago and while replacing the entire loom is a massive job this would probably require the entire contents of the vehicle to be removed as most of it is well hidden and connected in literally thousands of different points.
If part of the loom has failed it would be good to know where / why and how since others might discover similar "nasties" and not be under warranty.........
More feedback from firewood is needed please. I suspect that this may be much more limited than we are assuming and may involve only one or two components.....
Isn't this a drawback of the Canbus type of wiring system? The old-fashioned pre-Canbus wiring looms are inherently more resilient, so one faulty connection (unless it is a bad earth) or short circuit does not tend to degrade the performance of several parts of the vehicle electrical system.
I'm not an expert on this, but I suspect that it would probably also be more straightforward for a good auto electrician to repair a fault in an old-fashioned loom or repair a bad connection than to do the same job with a Canbus loom. Hence the default advice to replace the loom instead of repairing it or replacing faulty connectors.
Electrical experts - please feel free to disagree.
