I can't make my mind up between getting some kind of awning for our Burstner Ixeo Plus IT724 or a free standing gazebo.
One of the main reasons is that I'm under doctors orders to stay out of the sun, but we also need somewhere we can put things like deck chairs and table when it rains, rather than having to jump out and load them all back into the garage.
Any ideas, thoughts, product links, etc, will be much appreciated.
1. Wind out awning depending on size approx £700 pros it looks good, extra space, can leave out over night if no wind. Cons expensive, in fixed position and flaps alot in windy conditions.
2. Parasol - cheap, can move it around as and when needed, lightweight, can go small for storage, chair attached ones - got ours from Clas Olshon work a treat. The big parasol is like an hawaiian skirt at best good talking poing at worst right blooming embarrassment.
3. Driveaway dome -around £300 ok if you stay on sites longer than two days, takes 15 mins to put up, great for sleeping in and saves your spot if you driveaway. Around 25kg so bit weighty others are available that are lighter and smaller.
So we have opted for the parasol mode. We used our last awning 3 times in a year but mostly abroad.
I think you've come at it from a better angle than I was approaching it from.
I was thinking Gazibo vs Awning whereas you're adding a more temporary, lightweight, and flexible option into the mix, and it is a fraction of the price.
In the last line where you say you used it 3 times last year - that would be me Greenie.
We have two kids (13 and 15) so maybe I will look at getting a quick-erect tent for them (on the odd occasion when they bring friends and need it).
We use a Kyham Motordome Excelsior. Only weighs 15kgs and i can put it up on my own in under 10 mins, you also have the option of an inner tent if you need extra sleeping room. Had mine over 3 years and wouldnt be without it.
Beg to differ Andyman ours is a Khyam Motordome too including inner tent and floor mat thing is 25kg. Worth it though if staying for longer than a night.
Greenie
PS its including that's why its 25kg just to clarify!

10 minutes and 15 kg sounds good me, and even 25 kg isn't too bad.
I just wonder whether it is a lot of money for something we might, or might not use. Although, I suppose as a percentage of the cost of the motorhome it is quite small, and the potential benefit could be good.
At the motorhome exhibitions do they usually have this kind of thing available to check out?
We've got a Khyam screendome which goes up in 5 minutes and weighs 10kgs.
Of course it stands separate from the MH but that's ok for us. We use it for bikes, tables, chairs BBQ and for sitting in out of the sun or the rain.
Also keeps your pitch when out for the day.Khyam
Have you considered "MySunShade". Fit easily into most awnings - very simple but effective and give you some privacy as well as protection without being "hemmed" in. We are collecting a Full set at the Motorhome Finale Show 23-25 September (Lincolnshire Showground)
We have a wind out Omnistor awning. Mrs C made some side and front panels from plant shade netting. At the front of the awning they slide into the little channel in the profile using curtain net wire and for the sides we use the spring loaded shower rail stuff.
All very light weight and easily assembled.
Down side is windy days/nights, even with an awning tie down I usually put it all away to be on the safe side. Iwouldn't want the thing ripped off the side of the motorhome!!
