Yes a common factor on the early Peugeot engines. this was to compensate for the cylinder heads warping and being porous as well.
The new gaskets were supposed to cater for this. Rolling Eyes

That would explain why they bent when adjusted to correct settings, but would suggest that you use new rods on finished testing.only use a sealant on the very top side that touches the c/head, nothing in between.

the new gaskets come with sealant already on the top surface. Will put the first one as you suggest then the second gasket with the sealant in the middle of the sandwich?

you have no choice if they both has sealant on them and they only go one way. Laughing

I take it you do torque in the correct sequence.

Set it to 20 thou and there was no bending of pushrods! Am off to order two head gaskets tomorrow.
Will probably get new pushrods too to fit if the head gaskets cure the problem.

Will keep you posted.
