I think that, sometimes, we can get a big hung up over esoteric differences in performance between different bits of kit. I'm sure that some controllers deliver better performance than others, but in the end, does it really matter? I think if you're really worried about the amount of power you can get from a solar panel, you can make a huge difference by a) raising it from the horizontal so that it's perpendicular to the sunlight, and b) make it track the sun as it moves across the sky.
In two years, in all sorts of light conditions, and with the panel mounted flat on the roof, I've never had anywhere near a flat pair of batteries with my setup, and that's with several hours of TV / video in the evenings, no driving, plenty of water pump action, heating, etc etc.
I'm not sure a pi$$ing contest over which controller performs better under which conditions is really relevant.

I got the idea that a lot of people think that MPPT is the dogs danglies of regulators. I wanted to point out that all MPPT regulators are not the same in both quality and performance. There is a lot of research available on the web so don't just presume that because one member is happy with a particular product it will be the best and do your research before buying.
