Looking at getting a Smart to tow but the insurance seems stupidly expensive.
I have tried Admiral 'Multi car policy' and they wanted more to cover a Smartfortwo than for my C class supercharged Coupe!!!!!!! I have also tried Confused still way more that I expected.
Have max no claims (on other car), no accidents, no points, over 40, would be parked on drive, probably only do 2000 miles a year, if that.
Worth ringing Admiral again, because in general they will mirror your NCD onto an extra vehicle like that when you put it on their multicar policy (I did this with my Smart a few years ago). The catch is they won't cover it while being towed. For that you need a broker who knows what they're talking about (Comfort, Peart, NFU?), but with no NCD you will be looking at 5 or 600 notes, even for a Smart.
That does sound high. From memory, I think we paid approx £250-300 for the Smart on the Admiral multicar....full NCD on existing vehicles, nowt on the Smart. We're not a million miles from you so location probably not a factor.
Went up to £600 when I had to take it off that policy to get fully comp cover when on tow...
I am also amazed at your quote - I paid £260 this year on Smart Insurance and for the last couple of years the premiums were just-on the £200 mark (Smart ForTwo Pulse MHD coupe, petrol engine).
I cannot understand the huge discrepancy - especially as AVIVA underwrite the policies and issue the Certificates !
