I have just renewed my Smart Car Insurance. I have been insured with NFU for the last 3 years and have been happy with the service they provided.
My renewal price was £576. That was a huge hike in premium. I think it was £230 last year.

The Smart is a 2010 86bhp Passion Convertable with 9 years NCB. I felt the renewal was way over the top.

I did a search on MHF for other companies who insure whilst towing (in my case on a trailer)

The best quote came from Tesco Insurance at £199 with a £200 excess. They have provided in writing that the Smart is covered fully comp whist on the trailer.

The quote had to refered to the underwriter. I feel this is a very good price.

Once again MHF has saved me a serious amount of cash..

Hi I had a Smart fortwo cabriolet insured with admiral. It went up in flames on the 4/09/11 and I am still waiting for them to pay out. They are waiting for a report from mercedes as they think it may be related to the battery. I have no problem with them getting a report as I would love to know why this happened, as it had only travelled about half a mile before it went up in flames.

It seems to me that whoever you insure with at whatever cost surely the important thing is how they deal with any claim you make. I would have to say in the case of Admiral the answer is slowly.
If it helps anyone www.msminsurance.co.uk are the company I was going to renew with until the fire. They were recommended by a lot of people on a Smart car forum.

I'm quite surprised at the range of prices that seem to be charged by different companies so, just for possible interest for others, I have M'home and toad (Peugeot 107) insured with NFU. They gave me full NCB on this and I am paying just over £200 for any driver over 25.
I have written confirmation this includes towing on A-frame with full cover for both whilst doing this.
And the policy includes unlimited European use for both with breakdown cover (car only) - that is up to 12 months on the continent. All that is confirmed in writing from NFU. Seemed a good deal to me Wink

I guess a Smart may be a different class from the 107 but surely not hugely so.

Ched, did you phone for Avivas quote?...If you did then go on the Aviva.co.uk and do an online quote. There is an online discount of up to 20%. That would bring their quote down a bit.
