You can but it could take twice as long.

Ray.

OK Brian.
Will try and get in contact with the acquaintances who did reg their RHD motorhome here. They used to live just up the road from us but have moved about 20 miles away to Perrier.
If I can get their e-mail address can you PM me with yours and I will get you together.

Ray.

brianamelia, it's not the habitation door that will be the problem! They will need Certificates of Conformity for the vehicle (base vehicle and conversion), not always easy for the conversion and sometimes not financially possible!! Then the inevitable French bureaucracy and paper trail. Although all regions should theoretically be the same there are definitely variations across the country.
Owning in France is dependant on the weight of the Bessacar (over or under 3500 Kgs),
I have done a couple myself.

Is it too late to drop the UK deal and buy in France instead?

As from what you have said it would make far more sense in the circumstances.

Yes, we've done the deal now - and are really pleased with it. On the basis of this feedback (thanks all) and other member discussions we've decided to store in the UK. It's LHD so if we do decide to move/re-register hopefully it will be at least possible.

When we moved to France in 2000 it was indeed a problem that the UK habitation door was on the wrong side and we sold our 2 year old UK camper before moving and bought French when we got there.

I believe that the door requirement no longer exists and that there has been more "standardisation" in the EU with respect to Certificates of Conformity etc.

The link below is to a French expat forum and while it may not answer your exact question it could give you more info. The contributor "Sunday Driver" is particularly knowledgeable and helpful in all things legal to do with motorvehicles and registration etc.

Hi Brian.
This is all I got from my friend....................

"Hi Ray

It depends on the age of the motor home? If it is under 3 yrs ihen it would not require a control tecnieque and drire would do it as it should be european conform. You have to have the gas checked and the windows checked and the sockets changed to the French type and the lights changed. It has also to be weighed. Mine took 2yrs because I did not push it but Shirleys parents was much easier as it was under 3yrs but it can be done.

Good luck Michael"

Ray.
