Can you tell me the size of you domestic system allowing me calculate the watts generated per 100w of panels so i can size my system more acurately...?

We have 20 x 185 W panels on an east and a west facing roof. The nominal power they can deliver is 3.7 kW . The nominal sizes are the ones that matter when you work out the number of panels; the maximum is 4kW if you are to qualify for the FIT.

We've generated 10.75 kW so far today as it is gloomy and overcast We will have used some of that as we've been making jam as well as running the dishwasher and other gadgets to make sure we use our free electricity. Any we have not used has gone back into the grid and we've been paid 3.1p for it ( in addition to the FIT of 43.3 p for every unit we generate. In order to get your energy bills down significantly at home it helps to (slightly) adjust your habits to make sure your maximum usage is during the day when you're generating.

Hope this helps ?

Our van panel is 140W.

well it's fitted and up and running, I got a 120w unit with the proper bracketry and glued it on earlier.

It was interesting to see it showing charge at 7.30pm in cloudy conditions, although I doubt it will be a great deal, but interesting all the same

Now then, what's the next project going to be? Rolling Eyes

Does anyone know who makes (dimensionally) the smallest panel in terms of "power per unit area"?

The 80 watt with 5metres of MC4 cable currently on ebay at £148.70 is 100mm shorter at 1105 than most other 80's and no wider.

BTW for cost this is the time of year to be considering installation as prices fall while sellers struggle to shift panels.
I remember early this year the seller up Newcastle kicked of at £139 delivered for 80 watts and within a fortnight he upped it gradually to £179 plus P&P Shocked
The panels from the German seller just now are first class for price and delivery but with only 80cm cables

grizzley..

Thanks very much for the information...
It will help as i know we only use 8 kw a day in the house and it s also good for sizing the motorhome as i m finally going to settle for two 185w panels with the option for a third....

Any chance of letting me know what sort of time of day they start to produce at this time of the year and cloudy conditions ?

If you have a Schaudt Electroblock you can buy their Solar panel adapter that plugs directly into the Electrobloc and will charge the engine battery as well as leisure.

Considering that the cost of campsites in Italy and Europe with two kids runs 30 to 50 euro per night it won't take too many nights wild camping to pay for the solar panel. I'm in the process after our last trip in France in which even with two 100 amp batteries we were running out of power daily and not getting enough miles in between stops to recharge fully.
