Hi Guys.
This is exactly what I have. But it gives many options. Ray.

Thanks Kev.
As I spend 99% of my time at my desk and the laptop is soooooooo sloooooooooooow and limited, I think I will persevere with a desktop.

Ray.

Each to their own Ray, and you do get the benefit of cheaper component upgrades whenever you choose, but they're far from slow these days.

so how far have you got with this overhaul then.after reading all posts my money was on the optical drive, this is because most bios are set to read them before the Hd.one can go in and set to boot from Hd instead.but I could be completely wrong so my second choice is the memory needs re-seating.

You might have been closest Cabby.

After reading about the 'beep' codes on the HP website, I just trial and error removed everything from the motherboard......... nothing!!

So suspecting it was the motherboard at faulty I ordered a new one from Hong Kong at £44.

Today I connected the power and monitor and got the dos and message no drives detected.!! Put all the plugs and memory back to the motherboard.
Connected both Hard Drives and then DVD-CD drives and voila it's up and running again.

Dunno what was the cause or solution or how long it will function.
It just could have been memory cards needed reseating, I don't know.

But here I am with a new tower and motherboard on their way to me.

I thank all for the advice and help but feel the HP 'beep' codes and website info might just have been on the ball.

Ray.
