Yes, of course. In most pubs, the menu is determined by what is available from the ready-meals wholesaler. All pick-n-mix.
That's not to say that there aren't any decent chefs working in pubs and producing super food, but as you say, it's all given away when the plate arrives just that little bit too quickly.

You really must stop eating at the motorway service stations and the hypermarkets........

that is certainly not our experience locally, we can watch the things being cooked but it is important to be careful about what you select.

Moules only take about 3 minutes cooking and lamb shank has to be cooked for several hours and so would have to be prepared in advance....

Dunno about dinner but we often use truckers or workers restaurants here in Normandy lunch time where with a limited choice of 4 dishes can be served hot very quickly.

I guess most are pre cooked and kept ready as most French eat between 12.30 and 14.00.

Ray.

I am sure this does happen.
On two occasions we have been taken to nice restaurants for dinner and before the bill came I have got rid of it all in the loo.

I am fortunate or unfortunate to have a very short digestional tract. If something is suspect I know about it within 20 minutes and passed in another 20 minutes.

Ray.

Many Restaurants use microwave meals.

In fact, I would say almost any Pub Chain owned by the Banks will be just that. This is why I normally choose a steak or Fish N Chips. 3663 is a major supplier to the pub trade.

3663 < here (look at the keypad on your phone!)

Many Restaurants, even if not big chains will be the same. Ready cooked meals. How else can you expect low staffed small kitchen serve a range of 40 or so menu meals in one sitting?.

Those lamb shanks are probably nuked to so a high temp, they have lost any natural flavour and nutrients. I think Gordon ******* Ramsey promoted one and then fell flat on his face when the truth emerged about its quality.

I know a few Gastro pubs in the Cheshire area though that don't. Pricey but you pay for what you get.

Back to France:

Many of the same in France.

For chains, I like the Buffalo Grills.

But, as Ray mentioned. There are many places that serve a very small menu of home cooked food.

So you may have

A Pork Dish
A Fish Dish
A Chicken Dish
A Beef Dish
and a Wild Boar, Fox, Game Dish or something similar !

When it has gone, its gone. So arrive early.

Hi Ray, we always ate at the Les Roitiers when we were doing removals. Always got a good hot 3/4 course meal for around 10 euros.
